It looks like nobody is interested in Trotter. Has anyone heard anything?
It doesn't look like we're going to get anymore picks.

Gmanc711 04-07-2004, 11:59 AM Yeah, I havent heard too much about him, even though some of the " expert " columnists say that he should be a good player. I'd pretty much take what we can get for him, if he's not in our plans for the next season. diehardskin2982 04-07-2004, 12:01 PM what about the chiefs. He would be a perfet fit in their defense BrudLee 04-07-2004, 12:03 PM I'm surprised that the Steelers, or another 3-4 defensive club doesn't take a flyer on him. He's got the ability to be productive in a system that allows him to be aggressive. dieselhog 04-07-2004, 12:03 PM Good point. He would fit in well in KC. I know Seattle have a need for a starter and I know they are planning to make a decision on day 1 or 2 of the draft on whether to draft/trade or wait til 1st June cuts. sportscurmudgeon 04-07-2004, 12:06 PM Source for this HYPOTHESIS is an old friend who is affiliated with the front office of an NFL team (not the Redskins): 1. Redskins want to trade Trotter because his contract is burdensome and they would rather make a trade and take a smaller hit in terms of cap "dead money". 2. Trotter - and/or his agent - have been less than willing to renegotiate his contract because they feel that if he is released they can score another big payday as a free agent. 3. The Redskins told him to go out and make a deal for himself AND to show the league that they were serious about a deal AND to show Trotter and his agent just what kind of renegitiating they would have to do on the open market they told him he was not welcome in minicamp. 4. That action was to "loosen up" Trotter and make him more willing to work with some other team on a new deal that might land the Skins some cap relief and a pick. 5. In addition, Trotter's name was prominently mentioned in several of the complex draft pick trade rumors in Florida last week but all of them hinge on Trotter and his agent being a lot more flexible in their contract demands. It seems that Trotter and/or his agent think that he should get another big signing bonus if he takes a new deal and that bonus should be at least $10M. My friend says that is outrageous. My freind says that only the Redskins would even consider paying Trotter a number in that neighborhood and the Redskins have decided not to do it. He says Trotter will be lucky to get $5-7M up front and might have to take $4M. This is "for what it's worth". Obviously, my friend has a stake in all of this since he works for a team that competes with the Redskins. Your mileage may vary... dieselhog 04-07-2004, 12:09 PM All sounds very feasible to me. Trotter isn't the player he was, even though he is relatively young. Dosen't stop him from thinking he is better than the player he was though!! A team would have to be seriously stupid to give us a 3rd or 4th round pick for a player we plan on releasing on June 1 anyway. That's not going to happen. There aren't very many teams competing for his services... and without that competition, the most we could hope for is a 6th rounder. There will be no offer for Trotter by himself. He might (and that is a BIG might) be packaged in a multiplayer - draft pick swap type of deal; where he is thrown in as a "please take him, you can have him for free" type thing. The fact that he has to go, works against the Redskins. If there is no offer he will be cut soon after June 1st. |
