This quote from receivers coach Stan Hixon indicates to me that perhaps Jacobs' spot on the roster isn't guaranteed:
"It's really critical, it's really critical," wide receivers coach Stan Hixon said. "He needs to get back as soon as he can."
With Thrash and Brown having solid preseasons, Jacobs is quickly sliding down the depth chart.
What do you guys think? Could he end up a surprise cut?

So far, we know a few things:
1. Moss and Patten are the starters.
2. They love Thrash for his ST play.
3. Antonio Brown seems like he has had a great pre-season (that drop was lame) and he also probably will be returning punts and possibly kicks.
That is four roster spots.
We are basically looking at Dyson fighting Taylor for that last spot.
Taylor plays special teams much harder than Dyson, is much younger, and has Gibbs' backing.
I think it would be a real shock to see him gone.

has Dyson done ANYthing this preseason? last game was the only one i saw, and all i saw of him was half-ass an incompletion. is he supposed to be our 'possession' receiver?

They'll keep 6 most likely.

I agree that it would be a shock to see Jacobs gone, but only because I think they'll keep 6 WRs. Since Brown is basically taking up the kick/punt return spot, they can still keep Jacobs and Dyson around. That is unless they want to keep both Rock and Nemo, and an abnormally large number of LBs for their special teams prowess.
But I just can't see cutting Jacobs.

While I expect Jacobs to make the team, my concerns about his toughness persist. I think he has a little bit of bitch in him.. I don't know that he has what it takes to make it in the NFL.. He seems great vs. air, but I don't think that when the live bullets start flying he is able to step it up.. Other than his rookie year with the internal injury that his injuries have been to the point that he was inactive.. Has he had any surgeries in his career or have they all been sprains and strains? He needs to know the difference between being hurt and being injured.

No way will they have six receivers on the roster. 4 active on gameday -- then one inactive from week to week. If you're talking practice squad then maybe, but I don't think veterans are allowed on the practice squad after a few seasons.
No, Gibbs keeps too many TEs and H-backs for 6 receivers.
I will say though, that Jacobs and Dyson both haven't shown me much of anything.

Aren't there like 2 or 3 other WRs still on the roster acting as TC fodder? We have others yet to go who are lower on the depth chart.
