In another thread, BigSKIN Bauer posted a link to nfl.com's preseason stats. After noticing how well our offense was moving the ball (the reason he posted the link) I checked out how we ranked in penalties and was happy with what I saw.

We are tied for second for the least number of penalties received this preseason.

We are in fourth for the least number of yards lost to penalties this preseason.

I know last game had a few dumb penalties (too many men in the huddle, delay of game), but overall I have been very pleased with our ability to get plays off, and especially with the O-line's ability to avoid false starts. I remember games over the past few years when we would have three or four penalties in a row. A few time it moved us from field goal range to the other side of the 50. I hope the lack of penalties will continue and is a sign of our cohesion as a unit and good coaching.

I was complaining about how many darn penalties we were getting. I retract anything i have posted or said. I really thought we were making dumb penalties, hopefully we stay this good. I mean it is preseason but i feel we can see things and trends. The only problem I see is the turnovers as Tuna said in that other thread, it is the only weakness, if that is fixed we are gonna do very well this year. I think we all feel that too. Turnovers kill us, they will make or break us. I am a homer but i feel we have a shot against any team in the league. I look at our schedule and think on a good day we can beat anyone. I can't wait till the start of the season. no need to talk to the eagle fans until we have something to talk about.

After listening to Gibbs press conference, I think that Ramsey didn't really have that much to do with the int. Yeah, he threw it, but it sounded like Gibbs was taking the blame for designing the outlet pass that way. He says he is going to take that play out all together because of the way Pittsburg was able to play it.

Sounds like Ramsey had a good game, and we are starting to see just how good Gibbs can still be at adapting to the new NFL.

Good to hear they'll get rid of that outlet pass play. BigSKINBauer, I agree that turnovers are out Achilles Heel right now. We are near the top in yards per game, but we aren't putting up as many points as we should. If we can erase those turnovers, we'll do alright. I was happy to see us get at least two redzone touchdowns against Pittsburgh.

My folks were both born in DC and I've lived there most of my life, so I am right there with you wearing my rose-colored glasses.

Not directly related to this topic but what about the horse-collar tackle on Betts? :oink:

I couldn't tell from the replay, but it looked like the guy had a good bit of Betts jersey. The jersey doesn't count ao maybe that's why there was no call.

Yeah, the commentators said that you could see the jersey stretch down, so he wasn't holding the pads. Scary to see Betts limp off after the tackle though.

The commentators were speculating. Betts said himself that the official said he 'was already going down'. That has nothing to do with a jersey. They missed a call. :oink:

If we can keep this up, it would be a drastic change from previous years. Wasn't it only two yrs ago that we set a franchise record for penalty yds? I am very pleased with how mistake-free we have been as far as penalties go. Delays of game and false starts realy killed us last year and since Gibbs has to be used to the 40 second play clock by now, I dont see that as a big problem this year.

We are starting to look like the redskins of the good old days. Overpowering o-line, great running game, down field passing, awesome coaching. Look for ramsey to be the next mark rypen by season's end.
