I belive Ramsey will play well for us when regular season starts. Once Portis and Betts establish the run game, every aspect of Ramsey's job will get easier.
Brunell is a Different QuarterbackKevikazi 08-27-2005, 09:31 AM I belive Ramsey will play well for us when regular season starts. That Guy 08-27-2005, 09:46 AM i think ramsey will be fine, hopefully he's gotten the ints out of his system now... the play with the int is 50% of my madden offense... the pattern was similar to the PA bootleg, you cant see the db hanging near the sideline, and if he's there and someone rushes from the right, it's almost always going to go back for an int... (in madden portis is really good about busting tail to catch the guy and save TDs, he's the best guy in the entire game at that...) MTK 08-27-2005, 09:46 AM Raise your hand if you thought Gibbs had lost his marbles when he said at the end of last season that the final chapter on Brunell hadn't been written. I've been a staunch supporter of Brunell, as has TAFKAS, but even I have to admit I had my doubts. I think it's pretty clear now that Brunell was banged up more than the team let on last year, and that his hamstring injury severly messed up his mechanics which in turn took away his accuracy. Even though he's been going up against backups this preseason, the thing to look at here is his accuracy. All preseason he's been very accurate. He should have been 7/7 last night but Brown couldn't haul in a pass that hit him right in the kisser. We should feel very confident in our QB situation with Brunell looking so sharp. skinsguy 08-27-2005, 09:52 AM Joe Gibbs said last week the only way Ramsey is going to improve is to play through it, and I have to agree with Gibbs on this one. He did have another rough start though; underthrowing guys down field and of course that costly INT! I thought after the INT, when Ramsey needed a good drive, he came through. I think Ramsey and his receivers are still trying to find the chemistry, and I believe that will come once they have a few games under their belt in the regular season. Overall, Ramsey's performance wasn't terrible, but he does still have loads of room for improvement. I'm thinking nearly everybody on this board has changed their minds about Mark Brunell. I certainly have! He had one incompleted pass last night because of the receiver dropping the ball. Brunell has continued to look sharp this whole preseason. I'm starting to think last year was a BIG fluke! They talked about him having a hamstring injury that he tried to play through last year. So, if that was the case, I can understand why his passes were crap last year. Two things I want to see from Ramsey in our last preseason game if he plays: 1. Come in and throw no INTs - especially ones that turn into TDs for the other team! 2. Lead the team to at least one really good scoring drive with at least one pass completion of more than 30 yards. If he can do those two things, I think we'll be okay. All preseason he's been very accurate. He should have been 7/7 last .... Yes. That is what was missing last year. And he moves around in the pocket so I think that with a first string defense coming at him he would still throw well. We should feel very confident in our QB situation with Brunell looking so sharp. I do now. I have said many times over the offseason that Gibbs brought in Campbel because he lost his confidence in Brunnel to push Ramsey. I'm glad that I was wrong. Brunnel can push and is pushing Ramsey. Campbel looks like a rookie and I think we can all see that whatever the outcome of the QB situation, we are going to have better play at the position than last year for years to come. MTK 08-27-2005, 11:41 AM Campbell sure looked good handing the ball off last night, huh. LOL Looked to me that Gibbs was playing for the win. Sheriff Gonna Getcha 08-27-2005, 12:09 PM In the preseason, I really liked Brunell as a player but I hated the signing. I thought he was too old, we gave him too much money, and we gave up too much for him. By week four, I was one of Brunell's biggest anti-fans. I like giving people time to develop and get comfortable, but I thought he showed so little that pulling him early in the season was warranted. Today, I feel that Brunell is no more than a good backup. Brunell has looked pretty good (not spectacular like some people have said) this preseason. But six quarters of decent preseason play cannot erase my memory of thirty-two really bad quarters of regular season play. My bottom line, I want to give Ramsey the confidence and experience he needs to excel and improve. We should definitely be feeling pretty good about our QB situation. I'm sure Brunell would have more supporters if not for that big contract. But I always found it kind of remarkable that so often we'd hear the phrase "Hey it's Joe Gibbs, 3 time Super Bowl champion. The man knows what he's talking about." Yet no matter how many times he insisted last year was not all Brunell's fault, and the last chapter wasn't written on his career no one seemed to want to listen to JG in this case. Nobody, it seems, wanted to step back and look at the whole situation-new offense, slow, hurt receivers, injured Brunell. I did and do think that Joe Gibbs knows what he is doing and that he will lead us to the playoffs. However, I cannot say that he can do no wrong. Brunell looked awful and, based on the little information we have about Brunell's injury, I'm not prepared to say it wasn't largely Brunell's fault. I don't doubt that the new system, coaches, and players made Brunell look worse than he really was, but I don't buy into this preseason hype about Brunell. Collectively we're doing a total 180 on Brunell based on little more than three preseason performances against backups. Moreover, those performances were merely good, not spectacular. SmootSmack 08-27-2005, 05:51 PM RF, it's true that Gibbs isn't infallible. However, what the preseason has shown me at least is that Brunell still has some gas left in the tank. He's a serviceable backup who can step into the starting role in a pinch without the offense really missing a beat. And that's just fine with me. It's a lot more than most even thought Brunell could offer. |
