Woooo! Finally, we have somethign to be happy about. The dismal season pays off!!
The last time the team with the worst record won the lottery was in 1997. Seems like finishing last is the wrong way to go.
Ok McPhee, take Ovechkin!

Cush, I should be nice and commiserate but....nah.
Let's go Red Wings!
Lol. Hopefully Ted will force GM McPhee to take this kid, he is what the team needs, and will be great for marketing.

Ovechkin is the no-brainer no. 1 pick but I doubt he'll do anything for marketing the team. The Caps had Jaromir Jagr!!, plus Bondra, Kolzig, Gonchar, and hometown talent Jeff Halpern still no one went to the games.
Cush, us hockey fans are a dying breed, and we're basically endangered in the DC area

Isn't this kind of moot? Lock out on the horizon.

They'll figure it out, I can't see a lock-out. It would kill off the NHL. We'll end up with Hull's WHL.

Cush, i feel your pain...I am a ranger fan. What pick did the rangers get? Never mind...i see we pick sixth.
RedskinRat, I agree i don't think there will be a lockout either.

I think youth hockey is on the rise here in the DC Area, last year the Caps drafted another local kid, Stephen Warner (who helped Team USA win the Gold at the World Juniors :thumb: )
I think the one reason attendance is hurting (aside from the record/prices) has been the move to the MCI Center. Tougher for the Maryland (where a lot of the support came from) folks to get there on a nightly basis.

Interesting, I would think that having a downtown arena with Metro accessibility would generate even more fan support. Plus...they had Jagr! I just can't believe still that for two years Jagr and Jordan were both playing at MCI Center and really we have nothing to show for it now
