Ah yes, the almighty one time pro bowl linebacker is better than the stupid hapless bastard that's been to three pro bowls. I completely understand your logic. What has Lavar ever done that's been so average, right? last time i checked that guy was a bust.

i wish we didn't give arrington the option to void those last few years of his deal. i wanted him to be a redskin for life, now i'm not sure whether they'll cut him if he wants to or what.

I still think LaVar will be a Redskin for life. I think the contract basically appeases both sides for the next couple of years. I think LaVar stays with Skins anyway...let's not forget he's a pretty emotional guy (IMO) and perhaps by then he'll feel indebted to coach Gibbs in some weird way to stay with the organization.

However, I still don't think he and Dan Snyder have totally mended their relationship....if you read his comments closely he thanked every except Snyder. Very telling!!!!

Looking at Arrington's contract, his base salaries stay relatively low for the next 3 years. This year and next year he is at $540,000. Then in the third year, in 2007, the base salary is still relatively low at $2 million. In the fourth year, 2008, it starts to jump a little bit, to $3.5 million. And then in 2009 and beyond it is at like $6 million.

I think the Redskins are looking at his contract and figuring that having him on the roster, with this current contract, is pretty tough to deal with in 2008 and 2009. They're probably thinking that they would rework his contract before then, or they would let him go.

Thus, if Arrington makes the Pro Bowl twice in the next 4 years, the deal voids and the Skins are rid of his contract, right before the contract would have gotten big. They could then try to resign him if they wish, or just let him go if they don't deem him worthy at that point. But I got news for you, if Lavar doesn't meet the 2 pro bowls in the next 4 years, the Redskins will still renegotiate or cut him for salary cap purposes. There's no way Lavar is going to make it that deep into his current contract without a renegotiation or an outright release. As I see it, this incentive thing has little impact on the Redskins' plans.

I think something else very interesting might have come of this which may shape Gibbs' future with the organization. He basically stepped in a front office role for a moment and got this issue resolved successfully. Maybe this is just a precursor of more things to come for Gibbs as he eventually steps away as the head coach and hands over the reins to GW!

.......and everything was right in Redskins land. That's all I needed to hear. In this day in age with guys like T.O. out there pulling the crap they're pulling, it is refreshing to see that sometimes pro atheletes can still see the forest from the trees and have a genuine interest in keeping a good relationship with their team and coach. Granted, Arrington made some stupid comments in the past out of (I believe) a lot of frustration......but I really feel like he's back on board with waving the Redskins flag again.

There couldn't possibly be anything to support that statement PSU! If LaVar stays healthy this year, and I don't have any reason to believe he won't, he'll be a beast again! 3 out 4 pro bowls aint too shabby.
