SonnySamFrank 08-22-2005, 01:55 PM Let me clarify (if possible). It just seemed to me that Ramsey's TD pass to James Thrash took a year to get there. When he threw it, I thought for sure that it would be intercepted or knocked down. I then started watching his throwing motion a little more closely and he seemed to be "pushing" the ball vs throwing the ball.
RedskinPete 08-22-2005, 06:42 PM Brunell has said he's not throwing the ball any harder than he did last year. I actually agree, I just think he's looked a lot more accurate than he did last season. Perhaps that's because he feels more comfortable, maybe it's because he's been playing against backup defenders, or maybe it's because he has better protection.
Ramsey's passes have seemed pretty darned hard too though. Ramsey has better, though imperfect, touch on his short passes. So, no I haven't seen any of Ramsey's passes really "float." He's made some bad throws, but I don't think that's because he's lofting them up there.
I don't wanted to say this but it sure looked like Brunell is throwing much harder. Last year he had nothing but this year the ball is getting there much faster. Now I love to see Ramsey win this job but if Burnell head is right and the arm is there Ramsey will be watching from the sideline! Ramsey needs to look for the big play but if not there run or hit a back,TE or throw it away. I see this O much better with a O line and the rest of the WR,TE and backs! But if the QB question isn't taken care of here we go again. Please Take charge Mr Ramsey!!!!!! :coach:

Well, it was a throw across his body back to the middle of the field, so that likely took some of the mustard off it.
GoSkins! 08-22-2005, 07:23 PM Yeah, he rifled a couple in there early on. One pass he sent down the middle to Moss would have been a sure pick if he hadn't put so much heat on it a DB couldn't hold on.
I think that we saw a game in which Ramsey was sent out to try to execute the long ball with touch on his passes and air under them. This is something new to Ramsey and will require work (thus the preseason practice). He still has a gun for an arm.
JWsleep 08-22-2005, 07:59 PM Ramsey is clearly working to develop his touch pass. And he needs to. He's got to be able to put air under the ball so his speedy WRs can run onto it. That's what you are seeing on the deep ball, I think. I was impressed. I especially liked the sideline pass to Patten where Patten draged the foot to stay in bounds. That fell in between the deep and short coverage and went a long way, right into Patten's hands. I NEVER have seen PR throw a ball like that. (It impressed Theisman, too, I recall.)
I have no doubt that Ramsey still has his gun--you see it alot when he hits Cooley or a back in the middle of zone coverage or at the goalline.
Clearly, Ramsey needs to continue to develop his touch and precision--he's got the arm, now he needs to become a PASSER. Which is the right way to do it--you can't teach power.
As for Brunnell, I didn't see that half (in fact, the only highlights I saw were courtesy of Skins_fanatic's web site), so I can't tell. One thing for sure: he couldn't POSSIBLY have less zip than last year! He'll never have a canon, but it's good to hear he can get some mustard on it when he needs to. His game has always been more about precision and his improv ability. If his legs and elbow are healthy, that should be back. All this is great news: we need an experienced backup if Ramsey goes down or can't perform. But I would stick with PR until week 8 at least, IMHO.
DirtBagZ 08-23-2005, 07:41 AM I have to admit I like what saw from the offense in the game against Cincy. As others posted we moved the ball well and this was without Chris Cooley and Clinton Portis. The INTs are cause for some concern, but if there is a 'good' time to make a mistake it is now in the preseason. What impressed me most was David Patten, he had like 3 catches for over 100 yds.
I was talking to my cousin up in Maine who is a big Patriots fan and nothing but good things to say about Patten, his only caution was that he tends to get hurt and needs to be used wisely when going over the middle. I remember back when #84 was Gary Clark...so I am not too worried about a 'small' receiver going over the middle. I think we as fans we just need to sit back and fasten our seatbelts...especially once Portis is out there...for I think this team is going to surprise us.
monk81 08-23-2005, 08:16 PM The one thing he did that scared me was in the 2nd quarter he was being tackled by 2 people and still tried to throw it.. EAT THE BALL PATRICK! That's one thing that he does that worries me, still trying to make a play when there's no way it can be completed.
It scares Joe Gibbs too......that's one thing he preaches is about making good decisions, and throwing the ball out of bounds or taking a sack if your in trouble......If these types of mistakes continue then Patrick he could get the hook.........
I think another reason Brunell has played well, he's now healthy........
SUNRA 08-23-2005, 11:03 PM jeez, last year everyone was on Ramsey for throwing absolute laser beams that were too hard for receivers to catch (especially dearly departed Rod) and now he's being crucified for being too femme with the ball.
i think us Skins fans are so desperate and paranoid right now, that we're too easily frazzled over any little negative thing.
Ramsey is obviously practicing "touch", everybody already knows he can drill it. the truth (and our season) lies somewhere in between, so let's hope he gets it down.
I think what we all want is consistency. There seems to be only the 31-7 win over the Giants where Ramsey looked like a QB capable of leading this team. Consistency over mediocry.
