illdefined 08-19-2005, 03:08 PM heh D'Boyz, i commend you sticking it out here. you're totally right about these "journalists", if you don't mind the constant flack you'll get, stick around.
Hee hee, Toilet Bowl. anyone else love how the only times our teams wear Darks is when we're forced to play at each other's home fields? is there any other rivalry in the NFL like that?

I heard that last year on the Monday Night game from Stuart Scott on ESPN. He apparently thought the only reason the Skins wore white jerseys was because Dallas likes their white jerseys. Actually, the Cowboys and Skins are two of the rare teams that wear white at home no matter who the visiting opponent is -- most every other team uses the primary color jersey at home. Which sucks, I actually prefer the Burgundy jerseys/white pants. I know that Marty Schottenheimer changed that tradition when he coached here. He said the Burgundy uniforms looked more imposing. That was the last time you'll ever see the Cowboys in their white jerseys at Washington.

not to get too sentimental, but i remember my football cards growing up, every time the players were in Darks was with the puke green turf of Dallas in the background.
I love how our two teams do that, makes it that much more special when we face off, only time it happens.
Marty screwed it up for us though, because in Madden, I have to switch to Away uniforms whenever i play a home game. of course they know Dallas keeps THEIR whites at home....i @#$% hate EA.
Beemnseven 08-19-2005, 05:47 PM What's weird is that the Cowboys home pants are sort of puke green too, if you look really hard. With the blue jerseys, the pants are more silver.
If I had my way, we'd ditch the burgundy pants and go white jerseys/white pants at away games, and burgandy jerseys/white pants at home -- except when the Cowboys are in town ... then, we'd go with the traditional white jerseys/burgundy pants -- but only for that game, you know, just to piss them off! Because from what I've heard, it is purely superstitious for Dallas -- they honestly feel they play better in their white jerseys.
Recently however, it doesn't matter what jerseys they play us in, they play better and we lose.
That Guy 08-19-2005, 06:42 PM Backrow I'm not going to get into an argument of so small value other that saying those are the LAST NAMES of the player and even owners so you can looked them up. Other than that it's just dumb trash talk.
Daseal I liked your points but I have to agree with Redskins_P, Gibbs is old school like Parcell and he plays the guy he thinks will give him the best shot to win and he thought Brunell was that guy.
I believed that he based his Ramsey jugment on tapes and lack of game expirience and remmember Brunell was a high priced signed player you can't give that high contract and bonus and bench the guy on the 3rd game.
I believe he did it when he acknowledge things weren't going to change.

About the campbell trade :
Redskins Get
1st round, No. 25: Jason Campbell, QB (http://www.nfl.com/draft/profiles/2005/campbell_jason), Auburn
Broncos Get
3rd round, No. 76: Karl Paymah, CB (http://www.nfl.com/draft/profiles/2005/paymah_karl), Washington State
1st and 4th round in 2006
Don't you think you could have payed less to move into early or mids second round and not have to sell the farm?? is he really worth a 3rd, a 1st and 4th round??
<
we wont know till he plays a couple years... if he plays like mcnabb after starting a couple years, then yes, yes it was.

If I had my way we'd go yellow pants, yellow jersey's, yellow helmets with a splash of Red here and a dash of white there!
la73hof 08-20-2005, 11:11 PM It's that "Parcells glow" - that's the only explanation.
The 2004 Cowboys lost 10 games. Seven of those games were by 14 points or more.
The 2004 Redskins lost 10 games. Seven of those games were by 7 points or less.
That's an indicator of something.
Yup..the best thing that could have happened--no more smoke and mirrors
Henry
Ferguson
Ware
Spears
Burnett
Canty
Heck, maybe Lavar Arrington could do us a favor and knock out Bledsoe so offense could take off..
sportscurmudgeon 08-22-2005, 01:48 AM Dr. Z is a highly respected NFL journalist and analyst. He will most probably wind up in the NFL HoF as a writer. The chances that Danny Boy will make it there as an owner are far - far - slimmer.
If you want to say how brilliant Danny Boy was in signing Randy Thomas, you also have to wonder how the rest of the "Jetskins" signings turned out. Remember, all of them were part of his whirlwind activities in that giddy but ill-fated off-season. Two of the four signees are gone - having contributed marginally to Redskins' successes if at all - and the other one is still here but is hardly the greatest thing since sliced bread. Thomas is a starting OL and a good one. Hey, one out of four is better than zero out of four!
Now, is the signing of Jason Ferguson a critically important thing for the Cowboys? In the grand scheme the answer is NO. Ferguson is a better than average DL who fills a need for the Cowboys if they have any hope of installing an effective 3-4 defense. But that's all there is to that. He is not the missing piece to the puzzle that will win the Cowboys the Super Bowl.
In terms of "sexy picks/signings", it seems to me that the Skins have taken Ramsey in the first round and signed Brunell in the free agent market and then traded a passel of picks to be able to draft Campbell in the first round. All of this has been is "recent memory". So, let's not excoriate Dr. Z for noticing what has been the reality of the Skins' roster moves over the past few years. Reality may not always be pretty; in fact, sometimes Reality Bites!
SmootSmack 08-22-2005, 01:53 AM Curmudgeon, the problem I have (and I believe JoeRedskin and others as well) is that Dr. Z is saying "wow, what a great owner Jerry Jones is, stepping in to close the deal on a free agent and upping the offer to make sure the Cowboys get the guy"
Snyder does that as well, but when he does then all of a sudden he's just a meddlesome owner who doesn't know football.
Sort of hypocritical I think
sportscurmudgeon 08-22-2005, 02:24 AM I think Jerry Jones is at least as meddlesome as Danny Boy - and probably even more. Remember, Jerry Jones fired a Super Bowl winning coach in some kind of ego-battle. Danny Boy hasn't done that - - yet.
You can criticize Dr. Z for praising Jones for doing something that is probably marginal for the Cowboys in the near and distant future here such as signing Jason Fewrguson. But to say that this praise for Jones is horendously unfair to Danny Boy because of the "Jetskins" signings is a bit myopic. [I'm trying to be polite here so grant me the use of that adjective, please.]
Criticism of the Redskins and/or their roster moves and/or the decisions of the Redskins' Front Office is NOT incontrovertible evidence that the accuser is ignorant, biased or even misinformed. The record is what it is:
Danny Boy bought the team and before he had the chance to demonstrate his football and management acumen, the team made the playoffs and came within one score of going to the NFC Championship game. Since then, under his leadership, the Skins have not had a winning season - let alone a playoff appearance.
Dr. Z didn't cause that track record of ownership success to happen. Neither did Len Pasquerelli or Sally Jenkins or any other sportswriter who might be critical of what the Redskins have done. I've taken a lot of shots at Danny Boy over the last five years for some really shortsighted and boneheaded moves. So far, he's been wrong for making the moves far more frequently than I've been wrong in saying the moves were stupid. But I didn't make the moves stupid by saying I thought they were wrong. That's the problem with the Warpathers who fulminate at any hint of specific criticism of the Redskins and their "strategic direction" by members of the press.
Danny Boy is a genius at making money; no one with a shred of intellect could deny that without holding crossed fingers behind their back. Maybe the best thing that could happen to the Redskins is for Danny Boy to become so engrossed with his attempted purchase of Six Flags that he will pay no attention to the Skins for about three years and let others who might - just MIGHT - know more about the NFL than he does to run the team. Is that worth a try?
