Gortiz, As much as I would like for the Skins to have a Farve or a Brady, we have had Rypiens and Doug Williams, and Thiesmans and won Superbowls. I would love for the Skins to have an awsome QB like Manning, but those kind of guys don't come around every year. IMO Payton Manning will break every QB record one day and we will all be saying John Elway who, or Marino who, or Farve who. But back to Ramsey. I am on his bandwagon, and I can't really put into words why. Maybe because he is such an underdog and has been so physically and mentally tough for 3 years. Maybe because I want good things to happen to good people and would love to see him overachieve. I don't know, maybe he seems old school to me and I can relate to it more than I can the Terrell Owens of the world. Somebody help me here and tell me why we all all still pulling for him.

I say he goes 12/14 for 200 yards, 2 TD 0 INT and we spend next week complaing over how he missed 2 throws, didn't look comfortable in the pocket, his jersey was hanging out, his socks weren't pulled up far enough, and his haircut sucks.

OR... he'll throw 3 picks, won't be able to move the ball against Bengal backups, hit receivers for 5 yards on 3rd and 7, and those who criticize him for that performance will be labeled fair weather fans, over analyzing, and they'll stress that it's only the second preseason game.

I know why I'm still pulling for him.

I saw a QB who played pretty well down the stretch last season. Well enough that with some minor tweaks to the passing game, an improved OL and running game, he should be a very capable QB for us.

There's nothing wrong with being critical of him, I just think people are jumping the gun a bit. It's early, it's only August, and he didn't exactly stink up the joint against the Panthers. He has plenty of room to improve but he's alot closer to where he needs compared to the Ramsey we saw last preseason.

And then others want to say well he's a 4th year QB, he should be playing better.

Yeah he's a 4th year guy who has all of 23 starts under his belt, he's averaged a little over 7 starts per season so far. In comparison David Carr has 43 starts over that same time period. Joey Harrington has 44. I'm sorry but 23 starts over 3 seasons is not a ton of game experience for a young QB. Even though Carr and Harrington have over 20 more starts, Ramsey still has a better QB rating and TD to INT ratio.

I KNEW we'd be having these conversations after last week.

PRESEASON is the key word. Everyone needs time to work the kinks out. Regardless of how his feet looked last week, it's still WAY early in the season to be calling for someone's head. I'm a little disappointed, but then again don't we always have high expectations for everything Skin? We would have loved (and probably expected) him to go out and throw 3 TD passes, but there was the luxury of a Clinton Portis missing most of the game AND this was the first real preseason game to speak of. He'll get more comfortable each week that goes on.

Let's just have some faith now that he's been given the true "nod" as starter and not jump to any conclusions until the season starts.

Who is calling for his head or jumping to conclusions? I think the overriding theme is that we want to see more from Ramsey than we did last week. We want to see him successful because if he's not then the Redskins won't be.

Judging by some people's opinions, you would have thought he went 0-12 with 4 INTs and kicked Joe Gibbs' dog.

Good point. And Carr and Harrington have had more stability and have KNOWN that they were the starter, whereas PR's position has been unstable since day 1. The other 2 have also been in pretty much the same system for more than 1 year in a row too. I agree totally with the assesment that PR has shown poise and spark in actual games, however and our offense definitely played better with him in the line up. Not a coincedence that our offense's improvement happened when he came in in week 10 last year.

I think a lot of wanting him to do well is that he was first, and he did well enough before Brunell or Campbell even came along. We want that consistency, that guy who year in and year out we can say "this is our QB" When Brunell was brought along, I don't think people even thought about what Brunell had to offer (apparently nothing last year), they just thought "here we go again."

LOL

I'm a fan of the comedic stylings, Matty.

I think we need to see improvement from Ramsey in one area and one area alone, deep accuracy. I'd define that as the ability to hit open receivers 15 yards away from the line of scrimmage. I don't need to see him score, I don't need to see him win, I don't need to see him do anything fancy. Just avoid turnovers and show me you can throw deep.

I don't care what the score is when Gibbs won't even unveil 10% of his playbook and won't even play Clinton Portis. It's totally irrelevant. Just show me the signs we need to see that you can be a good QB.

all i know is that Ramsey needs to urgently better his vision cone and precision passing.
