Matty I agree with your post, but if you ever get a chance to see the Carolina game you will notice what some people here are worried about.

Ramsey didn't look comfortable at all in pocket. He had "happy feet" and never really planted his feet when he threw the ball (which lead to overthrows). He had Patten open on a couple of occasions and he simply threw the ball over his head. It just seemed like he was often worried about the rush, and not focusing on just getting the ball out. Granted, we didn't have much of a running game, but I expected Ramsey to look much better, and to me he looked like the "spurrier version" of Ramsey.

Maybe it was first game jitters, but if I don't see a change come this Friday....I'm going to worry.

I've also read where people say he looked fine in the pocket, and his overthrows were a result of pressure that made him change his throwing motion slightly... so I guess it's a matter of personal opinion.

It's a good point about the chip on his shoulder, I'm sure he does have something to prove to himself. Also if things don't work out for him as a Redskin, he still wants to play QB in elsewhere. He's not ready to call it a career, so he needs to show other NFL teams what he can do.

In the 90's in Jacksonville he was nothing short of brilliant. He could really scramble, spread the ball around, saw the defense well, and had a knack for making plays when it really counted. So, as a vet with lots of experience, it's not like the guy is prone to making bad decisions as a QB.

But then in his last few years in Jacksonville he hurt his arm or elbow or something like that. I never got a real good feel for what kind of injury it was. I'm not saying he had Tommy John surgery or anything, but when pitchers have reconstructive elbow surgery it usually takes them 2 years to get their velocity back. AJ Burnett's success this year is a perfect example of that. I'm purely speculating here, but you have to wonder if Brunell's arm wasn't 100% last year, and now it's ready to roll again. The zip he had on the ball against Carolina was quite impressive. I'm not going to get too excited, because it was only one game. Just like I'm not going to get too down on Ramsey for only one game. But I am encouraged a bit.

Not only was he recovering from his elbow surgery, which undoubtedly took something off his fastball, but the hamstring injury from the Giants game probably took a toll as well.

Gibbs said his leg was black and blue after that game. Hammy's can take a while to fully heal, so it's possible that his hamstring along with the elbow really hurt his arm strength and accuracy for the remainder of the season.

I was reading on another forum that Brunell really hit the weights this offseason and got himself in really good shape. I don't doubt that he's got a bit of a chip on his shoulder. In his mind he probably thinks he could still be starting... and since it looks like his time in Washington will be short he's basically auditioning himself for another shot elsewhere.

With the way Brunell's contract is structured, it was only meant to be a 2-3 year deal anyway. His base salary jumps to $5.5M in 2006, still manageable, but in 07 it's $6.6M.

I think for mainly cap reasons he's a post June 1 cut next year.

Unless he's starting by then they can't continue to pay a backup so much $$.

It was also the first preseason game for McNabb, Plummer, Losman, Harrington, and Rothlesburger. Those are the guys I saw that had pretty sub par performances in their first preseason game. Delhomme and Weinke are pretty sub-par QBs. If we're comparing, McNabb finished with a lower completion percentage than Ramsey 64% as opposed to 67% with one more TD and more yards, but 1.6257x the passes. McNabb threw a pick on his first pass.

McNabb played much better after the first throw, and completed some serious gains against the Pittsburgh Steeler starting defenses. Now, onto Delhomme being "sub-par" -- he guided his team to a Super Bowl two years ago, he has a career QB rating of 83, and a career completion percentage of 58.6%. Ramsey? No Super Bowl appearance, a QB rating of 74.4, and a full three points less of a completion percentage at 55.6. Now then, who is more 'sub-par' ?

Yes it is subjective, and thats why I said "I don't know if anyone would consider..." At this point you're being redundant. Of course it's subjective. If you didn't post anything subjective, this would be a news article. Just stats,facts, and maybe some history; no banter or opinion. Another fact that escapes you is that fact itself doesn't "destroy" notions. One can actually base a notion on ideas, and opinions, and sustain it through all facts.

If facts support the notion, then you'd be right. But in this case, the facts do not support your notion, thereby proving it wrong, or in my words, destroying it. If someone has the notion that this is really Ramsey's first year starting, evidence dictates that this is wrong, and the fact remains that he did start in 2003. So this fact DOES destroy that notion. I didn't say you couldn't be subjective. You certainly can be, but it this case, you'd be just plain wrong!

Sir I believe that trying to blow anything up your own ass would be subjective. Furthermore what ramsey did do last season has to be taken into consideration when evaluating his performance. His stats are among the highest in the league for those last five games. 3-2, and coming really close in those two, makes me think, maybe we get off his back and stop trying to put things in our asses.

Sir, those who are hellbent on excusing Ramsey against Carolina only need to remove one thing from their asses -- their heads.

It seems there are a few Redskins fans struggling to find excuses for another 10 point performance of which absolutely zero were engineered by Ramsey and the first teamers.

But just the same, I'm not going to try to blow smoke up my own ass by saying that there were "plenty of positives" on Saturday's game, that it made me "confident", or go back to the disaster that was the 2004 season and say "wow, look what Ramsey did in the final five games!"

I'm simply stating some things that I found as positives from the game instead of going around bitchin' and moaning about every little thing with the team. It would also help to go back and READ every word of my first post. I'm sure you'll find where it says "there were plenty of positives and negatives"...but I can see how that wouldn't support your argument.
