Luxorreb 08-14-2005, 04:57 AM What is the overall take; positives and negatives on our first preseason game?
I think everyone would agree that Ramsey had a poor showing even against the Panthers 2nd and 3rd stringers. I know it is preseason, but he showed a jumpy nervous side of himself that reminded me of a preseason with Spurrier. I have confidence that Ramsey will calm down. His WR's were running solid routes and his OL played extremely well for the most part. I was impressed with Betts, Antonio Brown, Nehemiah Broughton, Mark Brunnell, Jason Campbell, Mike Sellers, Pierson Prioleau, Omar Stoutmire, Casey Rabach, Kevin Dyson, David Patten, Santana Moss and Zak Keasey. I was quite disapointed in Patrick Ramsey, Ade Jimoh and Darnerrian McCants. The offense struggled almost the entire time Ramsey was in control whether it was against first or second team defense. The team as a whole and individually played quite well for a 1st preseason game. Please feel free to post your obsevations and thanks for voting for my dog #17 Doug Williams:

BigSKINBauer 08-14-2005, 05:13 AM ade is pissing me off, i don't care how good he is at STs
Now positives is, DIRTBAGS ARE HERE!!!!. they just played the best d-line in the league and gave ramsey all the time he needs, "the worst" player on our line (dockery) took jenkins to the ground! that is amazing and that is my play of the game, to the ground, mr 98 on madden himself to the ground!
HAIL TO THE REDSKINS AND HAIL Bugezzzz
Patrick will do better Friday,
i like darrell green reporting from the sidelines
Luxorreb 08-14-2005, 06:30 AM Green on the sidelines was great. Wish he'd go suit up and play a few downs that'd be even better!
GoSkins! 08-14-2005, 09:22 AM What Williams has said about needing good corners to make his defense work is ABSOLUTELY TRUE!
Ramsey is going to need the entire preseason (at least) to adjust to his new wideouts.
Our o-line looked fantastic against a very good defense.
Our run defense didn't look bad.
With our real starting RB's, Nemo on third down, and our starters back on defense, the game may have looked much different.

I said that when ADE sucked it up.
gortiz 08-14-2005, 10:32 AM I thought our backfield was pretty impressive catching the ball out of the backfield. Brunell for sure has zip on his ball. Sean Taylor is great, he blew alot of blocks, was flying to the ball, overan a few plays ... We didn't seem to get alot of pressure on the QB, and a few sacks were missed, so I don't think the D looked all that great, I mean, the first team Panthers scored no problem...
Schneed10 08-14-2005, 10:38 AM Offensive line looked great in pass protection. Run blocking didn't look that impressive, but it seems obvious to me that the Skins weren't focusing on the running game this week. Gibbs only called 19 handoffs the entire game, he usually tries to give 25 carries to Portis alone. I don't think the coaching staff emphasized getting the run on track this week. I think they went into the game with the intention of working on the passing game.
Of course, when you're not trying to run much, you end up with a lot of 2nd and long and 3rd and long situations. That made it tougher on the QBs.
In the regular season, Gibbs figures to call a lot more running plays. Ramsey was 8-12, although shaky on a few throws. But if you combine a 66% completion percentage with a decent running game, you've got yourself a mediocre offense that can at least move the chains.
Combine that with a decent defense, and the team can win some games. I want to see those corners get healthy though. Gregg Williams can't operate without them, as we saw last night.
I definitely want to see Ramsey look better, but I think it's important to remember that the threat of having Portis in the backfield goes a long way towards helping a QB find space. Once Gibbs decides to call the game like he normally would, I think we'll see some overall improvement in the offense. The Skins are still a run-first squad, and we didn't even try to use our #1 weapon last night, Clinton Portis.
Daseal 08-14-2005, 10:50 AM To me, the offense looked much improved. We didn't put up points, but the schemes looked so much better. We often saw a 3 wide look, the Oline looked great, the receivers looked pretty mediocre (minus McCants, and our TE/Hbacks.)
Williams defense is scaring me. Granted we had what, 7 starters missing from the lineup? I saw what has been scaring me all offseason. Walt Harris getting owned a few times. I hope Rogers is ready soon!
I still think Ramsey needs some time, I wanted to see Ramsey to McCants. They seem to have a good rapport and its one of the few receivers he's still comfortable with.
EDIT: Oh, btw. Nemo may end up being the steal of the draft. I really liked 36 last year and I like 36 again this year!
TheMalcolmConnection 08-14-2005, 10:58 AM Me too man. Nemo was a COMPLETE beast. I can't wait to see him running next week too...
TheMalcolmConnection 08-14-2005, 11:01 AM I also have to say, Brunell didn't look THAT bad last night.
