To be fair, he got trashed because he played like trash last year and had a lot to do with throwing a promising season away. I'm glad he's getting his bearings back, but he was playing against second stringers as a backup himself for the first time in over a decade. I hope he can make a great backup that brings veteran leadership to a squad of young QBs, but think about it. He didn't go in and score 4 TDs. He didnt even score one. He just completed some passes, and everybody's talking about how great he did. He definately showed improvement, but thats really not saying all that much.
I think what has raised some people's eyebrows is the accuracy and zip he showed that he so desperately lacked last season.
BigSKINBauer 08-15-2005, 03:36 PM dagnamit. lets not bad mouth someone because they did good, He played better against the second stringers then Ramsey did against the second stringers, but i don't care who he played, he played good, that is what you look at in preseason, he like matt said had zip on the ball, it was accurate, and to most people, it looked good. I believe we scored all of our points with brunnel as QB
I am not saying by ANY means that he deserves to start, all i am saying is give the man respect, yes he did suck last year but he obviously didn't want to suck, he also didn't make the decision whether or not he played, and when he was told to play he played. Can't blaim a person for sucking, we can want to cut the guy, or trade them but to actually be upset when he does good is streching it.
Now i know i am being hypocritical because i have yelled out Brunnel sucks and what not but over the past few weeks with the ariticles about his kids and how he wants to prove everyone that he really isn't the player that we saw last year I am easing up on this guy. Everyone is ready to cut the poor bastard next year, and i believe he still has trade value.:food-smil
Longtimefan 08-16-2005, 02:26 AM I was just suprised to hear any positives about Brunell even if he hadn't played at all. I'm well aware of the fact he may have been playing against second and third teamers, his play did warrant mention even from some of the former trash mongers. From researching the post I see some complete reversals.

I wouldn't really call it reversals, people hate trash, and last year he was total trash (for whatever reason). on saturday he looked like a real nfl QB, even if it was just for a couple drives.
Longtimefan 08-16-2005, 11:15 PM Oh!! "That's Right, I Forgot Brunell Sucks" I wonder what his family thinks about that.

I'm sure they watched the games...
backrow 08-17-2005, 12:38 PM I thought Ramsey looked ok, not great, just ok. There seemed to be a lot of 4 yard passes on 3rd and 5 situations. Not really sure whose fault that was, but it was frustrating. But it's still early. The "plan all along"-as Gibbs would say-is for Ramsey to be the starter opening day. I'd like it if he put together a dominating performance next week and definitively wins that starting job, as opposed to not losing it.
Even if you don't like Brunell, I would think that as Redskins fans we should all be pretty happy with how he did yesterday. He made good decisions, sharp throws. All around I was happy with his performance. Yeah I know it was against backups, but wasn't he playing alongside backups on offense as well? As for Campbell, based on what some people here have said about him I was just amazed that he knew to line up behind the center. Seriously though, for his first time out there I thought he did pretty well. I actually feel a little bit better about our overall QB situation after Saturday's game.
It was painful to hear Darrell Green keep referring to Bill Musgrave and "Hargrave" and his comparison of Brunell to Favre was odd. For those of you that didn't catch it, he said that Brunell had started his career as a backup to Favre. And then he talked about how Favre had decided to rededicate himself this offseason and how he had faced so much adversity recently-father's death, wife's lung cancer, brother-in-law's freak fatal accident. And then he said that people don't realize that Brunell has also faced a lot of adversity recently. So here I'm thinking "wow, what could this be? Something going on in Brunell's personal life?". But then DG says Brunell got frustrated with the whole situation in Jacksonville toward the end of his time there and had to deal with fans frustrated with him last year-his first in Washington.
I don't know, maybe it's just me, but fans heckling you is nowhere near the adversity that Favre has been dealing with. Is it?
I agree! Ram was, well, just ok.
I didn't like the acquisition of Brunnell, but after all, he did save HOF Coach Gibbs life during their first meeting, and now his arm is more lively.
Listening to DG was difficult at times.
