skinsguy 08-14-2005, 03:27 PM I think you're right. I think Ramsey still has shell shock...LOL! Once he looks at the tape on Monday morning and he sees just how well the offensive line was protecting the QBs, he might loosen up a bit. I just want to see him take as many shots downfield during the preseason as possible. I believe we have the receivers this year who'll get open for the long bomb!
EternalEnigma21 08-14-2005, 04:31 PM Jesus Christ. One will one of you moderators start a poll. I'm very curious to document after the first preseason game how many and who of us would immediately bench ramsey. I dont care if he did go out there and literally shit himself, its only the VERY FIRST PRESEASON GAME. What the hell?? The guy did look shaky, and threw a pick, but other than that he was 8 for 12. Thats a better completion percentage than the other two QBs.
Ramsey was jumpy as hell in the NY game last year when he threw all the picks. But then when he was named the starter he looked collected and we won a few games under his leadership. We owned the Giants, who took it to us the first time we played them, and he was very efficient in all of his games last year. There's a little more pressure with him starting the season and there's alot of expectations on him this year. On top of which he's playing a bland game of football in the preseason.
Some of you guys need to relax a little bit and have some patience. If this keeps up through the regular season, I may be one of the ones here calling to bench him, but this is THE VERY FIRST PRESEASON GAME. Lets not forget that.

I totally agree, but hey, what else is there to talk about?

AMEN.
For those saying we're making excuses for Ramsey's play last night, that's not it at all. We're simply ANALYZING his performance.
It's a simple NFL principle; when you have a strong running game things get a lot easier for your QB. Gibbs didn't even attempt to roll out a running game last night. That's not an excuse for Ramsey, it's an explanation for why he found the going so tough last night.
WE ARE NOT GOING TO SEE AN OFFENSE LIKE THE COLTS. Let's get that through our minds right now. Moss and Patten are not here to catch bomb after bomb. They are here to keep 8 men out of the box, due to the threat their speed represents. Portis the one who is then supposed to take advantage of the 7 man fronts.
I can guarantee you that is the plan. Gibbs will still focus on running the ball and keeping the chains moving with shorter passes. He just feels that with Moss and Patten threatening deep more often, it will open up more space underneath. Sure, Moss and Patten will be depended on for big plays on occasion. But they are not here to be Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne.
Parts of Ramsey's performance bothered me, especially the underthrown interception. But he did connect on 8 of his 12 passes. If we actually tried to run the ball last night, I bet we would have put up some points. Let's not fret yet, it's too early.
Sammy Baugh Fan 08-14-2005, 06:20 PM If I was just looking at this [1] preseason game I myself woule not be concerned.
The kid has had [4] years and that's the best he can do?
Are you kidding me?
I like the kid. I think his arm is strong but his "Head" and his "Gut Instinct" is weak.
Sorry.
I'll be pulling for Jason Cambell from this point on unless Patrick makes a 180 degree turn around.
Jason stepped in there and looked sharp.
I'll make the prediction that he will be the QB this year as we enter the Playoffs. The Playoffs?!?!?!?!?!
Yes, the Playoffs this year.
peace

GoSkins! 08-14-2005, 06:24 PM What is important to note is that the protection was there. As long as that holds up, Ramsey well find a comfort zone and start finding his WR's.
Who else is excited about Gibbs adding the screen pass? Man, with Portis, it could go all the way at any time. It really adds a way to burn overzealous defenses.
EternalEnigma21 08-14-2005, 06:54 PM LOL wow ask and ye shall recieve. Thanks for the poll. GoSkins! i noticed the screen and do think that with the combination of Ramsey seeing his checkdown guys, screens and a better offensive line we'll have enough to improve over last year's performance. I don't mean to get so defensive, but I was actually excited about alot of what I saw yesterday. Antonio Brown looked decent, and I at least feel more comfortable about the backup QB situation. Maybe brunell will find his feet and become more comfortable behind center. I don't think by any means he should start, but at least I feel a little more comfortable about Gibbs's decision to keep him around.

Yeah man, not sure why you were defensive. I haven't suggest Ramsey be benched, only stating the obvious from what I saw last night. I do seem to remember posting more than once that I do realize it's just the first preseason game, but at the sametime, a fourth year player shouldn't be worried about nerves.
skinsfanthru&thru 08-15-2005, 12:59 AM I voted that the job is still his, but Ramseys supposed newfound confidence built up over the offseason needs to make an appearance during a live game soon. He was patting the ball way too much and I honestly don't remember seeing him set his feet on any of his throws. I and my family couldn't believe the zip Brunell had on his throws and were wondering where the hell was that last year? And I know it's just the first game and it was against the back ups of the back ups, but Campbell looked extremely poised in the pocket and put nice touch on a majority of his passes. All I know is that it was nice to see 300+ yards in the passing column for the skins for the first time in a while that I can remember. Did anyone else watch the broadcast being down on abc and hear that Gibbs had told them that only 7 running plays were in the gameplan for last night's game? Gibbs sure doesn't want to show the zone blocking and other new plays until it matters does he, lol.

Honestly you weren't really the one that had me fired up. Mr Quervo had a little to do with it, and when I went into VBchat after the game there were a few guys in there after Ramsey and Gibbs. Completely ready to throw in the towel on both of them. It just seems that there are teams who have QBs who do poorly from time to time and they stick by their guy and great things happen... Anyone ever watch the NFL networks show on Brett Favre? He sucked when he got into the league.
We as skins fans have seen wayy too many QB contraversies (I remember even I was pulling for tony banks to land the starting job a few years ago lmao) in recent years to want to start it up again after one preseason game, no matter what happened. And ramsey didnt do horrible against one of the league's best defenses. I think one of the reasons NO QB has done anything spectacular for us in like ten years is because they're uncomfortable with their jobs security. Fans and Media tend to make them that way, no matter what a coach tells them. So when we're on here and everywhere else calling for Campbell or Brunell to be the starter too soon, its almost like we as fans are shooting the team in the foot.
I think the thing that bothered me so much about the situation was in the vbchat I looked at some of the guys' old posts. Some were talking about how bad the redskins were screwing over players, and others were basing assessments and assumptions on QBs based on anything but skill. (I'm not getting into that one). Those type of people just want to sit around and bitch, and when I get on my favorite site to talk with my redskin buddies about the first game of the year, (my first time to ever have that privelege, since I joined up after last year's season) benching ramsey and joe gibbs bashing over a preseason game is the last thing I expected or wanted to hear.
I could have gone to a dallASS site for that.
