I can pretty much say without a shadow of a doubt, that we wont get Winslow and Taylor. With that being said, the idea of maybe trading a next year #1 to say a New Englad, could be a good idea. We can still get a quality D-Linemen at that level fo the draft.

It wouldn't be easy that's for sure, But I also had a scenerio in another post, which we could move into the 10 to 15 range and get that lineman, as well as dealing into the second round and take TE watson, now that may be much more realistic, as well as cap friendly, and we would come away with taylor which would make us all happy in redskin land! :headbange

Mitchell will replace him, and we'll save a decent amount of cash when we make some cuts. As far as depth at running back, do we have anyone else that can even compare to Clinton Portis? No. But we do have Betts, Trung (for now), Rock, Simon (or is he gone?), McCullough, etc. I think we have too much at running back. Keep Rock, McCullough and maybe Betts depending on what kind of offer we could get for him.
Also, the cap should go up considerably over the next few years if I read Sport's article correctly. If this is true, then we shouldn't have a problem. In another post Matty addresses the fact that the NFL makes it so you can sign draftees to a contract regardless of cap situation, he explained it and honestly it went way over my head, so check through the threads if you're interested in it!
I think it would be a miracle if we could get Taylor and Winslow. I'd love every second of it (and I'm a Florida fan!)

MLB Mitchell should have been our starting MLB as of two years ago. Trotter was one of the worst pick ups ever. As much as I like MLB Mitchell, he is getting old and is not a FUTURE replacement....he is a temporary solution. We should be grooming someone now to be our future MLB.
Also, other than Portis, our runningbacks are either very injury prone and not very good. The RB's you listed Betts, Canidate, etc. can not be counted on to start, if Portis should go down.
I also read the post about draftees not counting against the cap. Frankly, I am 99% sure that is not correct. That person was confused about the definition of the NFL Rookie Salary cap pool. THE NFL explains it this way:
"Within the regular NFL salary cap is a second, or sub-cap, for signing rookies (including draft picks), which takes into account the number and placement in the draft order of each team's picks. Each team gets a certain share of a predetermined total amount of money (the "rookie pool") to spend on rookies. Since this money is counted against the overall cap, it's actually a cap within the cap."
One of the ideas behind this scheme is to reduce rookie holdouts. A team can say with a straight face, "Hey, we can't pay you any more than x dollars this year.
The scheme is also intended to put all NFL teams on a more or less equal footing in terms of being financially able to sign their draft picks.
