TrueD 08-10-2005, 06:06 PM What do you guys think of Bill Musgrave?
Do you think he will help the offense?
Bill worked for us a few years back when we had the " we don’t say his name" coach. I though he brought an attacking style of offense to the team, thought we only saw it in practice and pre-season because of the " we don’t say his name" coach overruling all his plays on Sunday. Needless to say he quit on us about half way into the season. I think he went to the Jags for a season or two ( you guys may know more about it ) I just remember him liking the shotgun formation and I know Joe never did like the shotgun back in the day. So what’s the Die Hard fans take on Bill joining the staff?
Daseal 08-10-2005, 06:19 PM I think the Jury is still out on Musgrave. I've heard some really bad things about him coming out of Jacksonville. Said he was too conservative in crucial times (exactly the OPPOSITE of what we need) and he was quickly fired. You never know, I think coaches get lucky in situations. Look at Bellichek. Run out of Cleveland - now he's a genius.
On a side note, we'll see how big of a genius he is now that those two amazing coordinators are gone.
JWsleep 08-10-2005, 06:37 PM Daseal--where you been?
I think he's young and good with QBs--the knock on him in J-ville was as a coordinator, I thought.
Hopefully, he'll take young PR aside and help him work out the kinks--plus it can't hurt to have input from a different system--Gibbs, Buges, Breaux, Simmons--They probably know what's coming out of each other's mouths before it's said!

I been sayin the same thing...... I bet he dont look as "smart" this season.
offiss 08-10-2005, 06:54 PM I have the same concerns as Daseal, the Jags didn't strike me as a aggresive offense to say the least.
I do think it's a good idea to put Ramsey in the shotgun though, reason being, with all these aggresive defenses and zone blitzing, it may give him a quicker read on where the blitz is coming from and allow him to react better, which may give him more comfortability throwing the ball.
That Guy 08-10-2005, 07:04 PM i don't think he can possibly hurt, i mean, did you see our offense last year? it was PAINFUL to watch outside of portis, and even the run game wasn't that great.
hopefully we can take some of his ideas and run with them... i really think ramsey is better suited to the shotgun (isn't that what made him a first round pick?).
Gibbs IS giving him some control and using at least some of his input, so i'm hoping we can at least get to 16th best offense to go with our D. Either way, i haven't seen anything negative about musgrave, but he hasn't been too vocal with the media etc, so i'm really not sure how to evaluate him at this point.
JWsleep 08-10-2005, 07:07 PM Mentor and guide to Patrick and Jason--not a bad move. Plus, he's played against current defenses, so that input has to help.
He's not a vital cog, as far as I can tell, but another set of eyes, and a good team player to help out.
People have made more of his presence in the media than it deserved, I think. Like, "Musgrave brought in to fix Gibbs O, etc." I think he's the QB coach--he's worked with some good ones, so why not.

Im waking up at 12:30 AM and working pretty long hours. Kinda messing up my sleep schedule. 3 more days on that and I'll be back to make all of you fume!
I think Musgrave will do a good job with quarterback development, but from what I read they also wanted him to help mold our offense and bring it into the new era. If this is indeed true I think we picked the wrong man - the shotgun will be nothing but great for Patrick Ramsey. It gives him a bit of familliarity which I feel he really needs. He ran a real wide open system when he was at Tulane, lots of shotgun lots of his arm being utilized.
I really feel that we need to let some of these speedy receivers catch intermediate balls and keep defenses honest by picking up yards after the catch. Throw slant/cross patterns. I'm okay with the OCCASSIONAL screen, but Gibbs seemed to run it more than Spurrier. I'd also like to see more shots deep. If our offense can establish a passing game it will only help Portis.
GoSkins! 08-10-2005, 08:58 PM I think that he will help and he brings a different perspective.
Right now it sounds like the biggest problem is Ramsey staring down his receivers. If Musgrave can help him survey the field and look off receivers then we will start to see amazing things happening.

Thank goodness! With you and SportsCurmudgeon on summer hours, it's been kinda quiet here...;)
