I'm pretty sure on one of Gibb's first interviews with George Michael he said the reason he came back was for Coy. He said he liked to coach, but his primary reason for coming back was his son.

Happy 21st Daseal!! :food-smil
Just remember, Don't Drink and.....Post! Though I know we all have

I think I was more bothered by the fact that Z was almost predicting that Gibbs wouldn't be a success and Snyder was going to kick him to the curb next year and the notion that Snyder got rid of Marvin Lewis

:stop: Dammit, Daseal, you just had to go and throw a wrench in our anti-SI rant, didn't you?! Man, now I have to find another argument for why Dr. Zzzzzz' s a jackass. Thanks a lot, Daseal!:cheeky-sm

No, seriously, I know Gibbs has said numerous times that Coy was a big reason for him wanting to come back, but I tend to think that Coy may have been the spark that simply re-ignited the fire, so to speak. Whenever I hear him talk about Coy telling him he wanted to try coaching, it sounds to me as if it was the turning point where Gibbs began to think, "Hey maybe that's not such a bad idea after all." His sons were a big reason why he quit coaching to begin with, feeling that it took too much time away from his family. Now that Coy's all grown up, and has expressed his own desire to coach, maybe Joe thought, "Hey, this would be a great way to spend some more time with my son, while doing what I love to do anyway, right?"

So while Coy may have been a major catalyst for Gibbs' change of heart, I find it extremely difficult to believe that Coy is the primary fuel that drives him on a daily basis. We all know what drives Gibbs, and that is the desire to be the best at what he does. The guy may talk like a saint, but his competitive fire burns hotter than hell.

I heard in a interview with Gibb's and he said that he told his son that he wasen't doing this [coming back] for him. it was one of his first interview's. yes coy had a hand in it, but it was his mother who I guess figured it would be best if coy started coaching to do it under one of the best, so she gave her blessing's on joe coming back.

Happy Birthday Daseal - though if your 21st is anything like mine was, your eyes will be swollen shut for a few days after your first night of legal drinking. :food-smil

Coy may have initially put the thought into Coach Gibbs's head, but you can't fake the energy and passion Joe has brought to the challenge of building and running this team. We should all thank Coy Gibbs for lighting the spark (a nice fruit basket, perhaps?), but the fire belongs to Joe Gibbs.

Dammit, Daseal, now I feel bad about pretending to be mad at you for throwing a wrench in our anti-SI rant!!!

Seriously, happy 21st birthday!!!:food-smil :party-smi :party-smi :food-smil

Hope you have a blast this weekend!!!

You're one of the best posters on this board, despite the fact that I tend to disagree with you at least 50% of the time! But that's what makes you such a good poster-- you stick to your guns, and you always present a good argument, which contributes greatly to the quality of the discussions on this board. Happy Birthday, Daseal!

Why do I get the feeling that this won't be your first? :headbange

I think JC summed things up well.

Coy's desire to get into coaching is what may have initially sparked Gibbs' interest, but it's not the sole reason for his return. Gibbs would never do something half-assed, if he's committing to something he's committing himself 110%.

Making the Skins into winners again is the ultimate challenge for Gibbs. If he can climb that mountain twice, he will surpass his already legendary coaching status.

Oh and by the way, have a happy b-day Daseal!

How will you be celebrating the big occassion? Perhaps by throwing in a game tape from the Spurrier era and doing a little reminiscing?

LOL, j/k, have a great day!

Thanks guys! I appreciate it! I didn't do much for my Birthday, went out for dinner and a few drinks with a friend. Got a slight buzz going and then I went to bed, had a football game this morning. I plan on doing quite a bit more celebration tonight! Still debating as to where to go, have a few options to party at! I go to the grocery store, buy a bunch of beer, don't get carded.... The usual!

Matty, were you spying on me? I watched every single win during the Spurrier era. For the other 22 hours I worked and had a few drinks.

I think Gibbs is fully commiting himself, he always does. You never want to go into something half ass, give your all. However, I do believe that Coy was a large part in his decesion to return to coaching. Obviously he still has the desire and drive to win another Super Bowl (or two, or three, or four, or...). There's not a damn thing wrong with going back into the coaching world because your son wants to, and I'm glad to see him back in Washington. As much as I love Spurrier, it would be painful to see Gibbs anywhere else. Don't get me wrong, I still wanna see Spurrier at Redskins park, maybe just have Gibbs give him some pointers while Spurrier does O coordinator!

Thanks again for all the kind words!

Joe, I often don't expect many people to side with me, and on more than one occassion I haven't exactly agreed with myself, but I always try to look at something from a different perspective. Thanks again, and I'll see you all when the haze clears!

Why do I get the feeling that this won't be your first?
Do my two possession of alcohols tip you off any? GRUMBLE!
