The Redskins have decided to part ways with injured linebacker Mike Barrow, the team announced on Saturday. Barrow, a 12-year veteran, was released by the Redskins 15 months after signing with the team via free agency.

Mike Barrow Barrow missed all of the 2004 season due to tendinitis in his left knee. He was placed on injured reserve on Nov. 24 after being inactive for the first 11 games.

Barrow attempted to come back this offseason, working out at Redskins Park regularly. He played for Redskins' assistant head coach-defense Gregg Williams from 1993-96 when both were in Houston.

During the June 17-19 mini-camp, Barrow worked out for the team's athletic trainers, including director of sports medicine Bubba Tyer, and the prognosis was more positive than it had been at any point in 2004. But team officials cautioned that Barrow's status remained uncertain.

With Barrow's departure, the training camp competition for the starting middle linebacker job has narrowed. This is expected to be among the most closely watched competitions during training camp, which starts Aug. 1 at Redskins Park.

Veterans Warrick Holdman and Lemar Marshall are thought to be the leading candidates, but youngsters Clifton Smith, Brian Allen, Brandon Barnes and rookie Robert McCune are also in the mix.

It says on the Redskins Homepage that Lott was released, but there isn't an article about it.

yea, there's an article on the skins site about the release of lott. i just read it, it basicly says that the skins and lott reached an "injury settlement". the skins released him cuz he was always injured , and because they've signed other players to battle for his spot.

There's an article in the Washington Post about both Lott, and Barrow. I was hoping Lott would stick around since we originally drafted him. Barrow, I'm still trying to figure why we brought this guy in with a bad Knee from the get-go. Further, he's going to count 1.66ml capwise in 06.

Barrow didnt have a bad knee when we signed him. In fact Im retty sure that barrow never missed a game in his entire, and lengthy career. Thats damn impressive.

well what's not impressive is the fact that he was unwilling to restructure his contract to help the team, despite the fact he never played a down for us last season. it shows that he wasn't willing to help the team. im glad we cut him. i hope nobody else signs him and he retires.

I don't wish anything bad on Barrow in the future, I hope he can recover from his injury and play. Unfortunately, nowadays, you can't expect players to have a team first attitude. Specially when it's so easy for them to just jump teams anytime they want to.

However, I believe we did the best thing by cutting him. I hate to see how our cap is going to be looking next year though.

i don't think our cap will be any worse next year compared to this year because of the coles fiasco.

How do you figure he didn't have a bad knee when he came? The guy never practiced (hardly) with the team, and never played a down.

he's saying barrow didn't have a history of getting injured before he came here.
