Do We Really Need Winslow?

Winslow's potential agent problems scares me a bit, the last thing we need is a camp holdout.

Yeah Matty - I heard somewhere that he may wait until AFTER the draft to sign with the Postons. That's pretty sneaky - if it's true then we should avoid the situation. It's just a foreshadowing of what will happen down the road...

Here is a question I pose to The Sean Taylor backers...

If we are able to pick up NE's 2 first round picks plus a second rounder for the 5th pick of draft which is the trade that is being reportly offered to Detroit, would you guys rather have the following players or Sean Taylor...

There is also a Lions 4th rounder (in this years draft) as part of this deal. Last time I checked, we do not have a 4th round pick. A fifth rounder is not going to cut it for Patriots because otherwise the Lions would have negotiated it to a 5th rounder in the deal instead of a 4th.

Gibbs has always been able to make lemonade out of lemons, exhibit A - Timmy Smith. I think we need more help on the defensive side than on offense. We haven't had a safety of note here since, uh, (struggling), um, and er ah, Alvin Walton? Ugh, I give up. I want a big hitter, a guy with range who makes quarterbacks pay for those errant throws over the middle. Ohalete.
My knowledge of Taylor is that he isn't the hitter that Williams is - he's more of a ballhawk. Not that I think it should affect his selection, I just don't think he'll be the enforcer he's being made out to be.

they'd probably take it if we offered our 5th this year and our 4th next year.

and yeah, there is all of this talk about Taylor being a wrecking ball type tackler but he's no where near Roy Williams type hits. He's more of a coverage safety and would be a ball hawk. He kinda reminds me of a slightly bigger Rod Woodson with his ability to read the pass and once he has his hands on it, taylor has the chance to run it back for a big play a lot of the time.
That being said I'd still rather draft Winslow to make our offense practically unstoppable and see what Williams can do with our safeties. I've also heard about Cleveland's safety Earl Little might be up for trade(SKINSnCANES might know about him since he went to Miami.) We could swap Little for Trotter plus get clevelands 4th or 5th rounder, get New England to make the offered detroit trade with us, trade the #21 pick(I think) from NE, next year's 3rd, and Gardner to detroit for the #6 pick and a late round pick, use detroits pick to select Winslow JR., use the #32 pick to select Jake Grove, then use the 2nd rounder to select Boulware. any other picks would go for special teamers and hopeful diamonds in the rough.

I was out all day so I havent had a chacne to respond to many of these and ive been mentioned in a few of them. Whoever it was that mentioned Winslow always asking for the ball isnt accurate. For the begining of the season he spent more time blocking becuause so many people would focus on him. He does have the same attitute as Portis though, if the games on the line he wants the ball, which isnt really an attitute. He always proved to make the plays.

I dont know a whoel lot about little, sorry.

Umm, what else. Oh, Taylor isnt so much of a big hitter. What he does though is never let anyone get by him and always makes the tackle. Hes definitly has an eagle eye for the ball though, if the ball is aired out he'll be there making a play on it.

I beleive he clocked in at 4.5 in the forth with a tweaked hamstring. Even if he say was only 4.45 at best, which I dotn really know, he still has excellent closing speed.

I think maybe the question to be asked is, taylor at #5 then send gardner trotter and our #1 next year for 2 2nd rd pick's, then draft watson or peter's, as well as either stark's [if avail] or another big D-lineman, I just feel that the way Gibb's uses his TE's and H-back's he would make a star out of either one of them, and we would get a D-lineman, if we reverse that and draft winslow, then go after a saftey who would we pick that could remotly come close to taylor? yes we could still get a D-lineman, but we wouldn't come close to a saftey with the dynamics of a taylor, on the other hand we could draft a TE who would be a better blocker than winslow, faster than winslow, and better charactor than winslow, in watson, watson to me sound's like the kind of player all the way around that Gibb's would really like, and I think gibb's would make a star out of him, I just put this out here because the odd's of us obtaining both taylor and winslow I think we all know are a long shot.

Drkstar you said you have followed watson a bit? can you shed some light on his production and football instink's on the field, have you seen enough of him to gauge whether or not you think he will make a good pro? as well as fit into Gibb's system?

I've been reading that he's a hitter, but not the best when it comes to fundamental tackling (oh no, David Terrible, uh Terrell flashback :Flush: ).. I think that can be refined at the NFL level and if that's the only knock on him is he doesn't always wrap up, sign him up.. I'd love to see T.O. or Mary Glenn alligator arm balls across the middle..
