Why aren't we risking a 6th or 7th rounder in supp. draft?

why waste a pick on someone that doesn't really promise to even be as good as what we've already got in abundance...

if we were going WR, we should have gotten a real #1 like Mushin (too old, too much) Mason, drafted Williams etc... gibbs decided that we're going to try speed and we probably have the fastest corp (moss, jacobs, thrash, brown) so i'm hoping that works.

We are going for speed, yes, but Crosby has that in spades. He ripped off a 4.37 40, which is smokin'. And he's 6'2", which gives him an advantage in the vertical game as well. Personally I would've used the 7th rounder on him.

Heard an interview with Roscoe on Sirius. Sounded like a really hard working type kid. Very confident in his ability, double sport player (drafted by KC Royals outta HS in the 2nd round even though he told them football was his passion and he wanted to play that. Clemson coaches loved him, etc. He's worth a look.

The Indianapolis Colts didn't have to use a draft choice, but they made a move from Thursday's supplemental draft by reaching an agreement with former Clemson wide receiver Roscoe Crosby.

Crosby wasn't selected during the seven-round draft, but was being pursued by four teams who wanted to sign him to a rookie contract. The Colts made the most convincing pitch and reached an agreement by late Thursday afternoon.

Terms of the deal weren't known, except that it will probably be for three years.

Crosby was one of the most interesting stories of the supplemental draft. He was a Baseball America top 10 prospect coming out of high school as well as a top 10-caliber football player. The Kansas City Royals drafted him as a center fielder in the second round of the 2001 baseball draft. Crosby caught 27 passes as a pure freshman for Clemson.

Injuries prevented him from playing baseball for the Royals and he fell behind in the Clemson classroom to the point he lost academic eligibility. After being away from football for almost three years, Crosby applied for the supplemental draft.

He's a 6-foot-2, 210 pound receiver with speed slightly less than 4.5 seconds in the 40-yard dash.

Nice, another weapon for Peyton's aresenal. The Colts are loaded at WR too. Man, sometimes I think our front office is one of the worst in the league. We need a GM like in the good ole days, cause Cerrato and company just continually screw up IMO.

So because they didn't go after a very unproven and raw prospect the front office blows?

Here we go again.

Man I hope not. It's tempting to just lock this thread before things get really ridiculous here.

Too many risks in the supplemental at too heavy a price. Pre-salary cap/free agency, the Redskins would have excelled at analyzing non-hyped talent. Today, with the team struggling at the cusp of respectability, the last thing we need to do is trade 'real' draft picks to get raw, lower-tier talent. Looks like teams like the Colts were smart with this supplemental draft - forget wasting a pick, but pursue him as an undrafted if he's still available.

I guess 28 other teams around the league dropped the ball on this kid as well. At least the Skins are in the majority.

Mattyk72, do you really want to have a debate on how good or bad our front office is? Vinny and Danny Boy have given us: Deion Sanders, Jeff George, Bruce Smith, Dan Wilkenson, Dana Stubblefield, Mark Brunnell, and we waste draft picks like candy, heck we threw in draft picks with both the Portis and the Brunnell deals! Now they have had a few decent signings the last year or so, but by and large our front office makes one screw up after another. How can you say a 7th rounder is high risk, that make absolutely no sense to me since we have never had a 7th round selection pan out and be a real contributor anyway, and this kid has real potential.

When did Matty say it was high risk? He just said it wasn't worth it, right Matty?
