10. Because the football gods are way overdue to smile on the Redskins.

9. Patten and Moss will give the WR's the speed and big play ability they so desperately lacked last year.

8. Changes made to the running game will help boost Portis to the 4.5 - 5.0 yards per carry range.

7. The addition of the shotgun will help the passing game in long yardage situations.

6. Casey Rabach will solidify the middle of the line.

5. The return of LaVar Arrington.

4. The return of Jon Jansen.

3. Patrick Ramsey will take his game to a new level this year.

2. The defense will be strong yet again keeping the Skins in just about every game.

And the #1 reason why the Skins will win at least 10 games this year...

1. Because it's Joe freakin' Gibbs we're talking about here! If he can't turn this ship around we're really doomed!

In all seriousness though, Gibbs had too many obstacles to overcome last season. Being away from the game for over a decade, having to adjust to new rules, new defensive schemes, a shorter play clock, instant replay, etc., and of course adjusting to a new team.

He had last season to shake off some of the rust, find out what does and doesn't work offensively, and find out what his players' strengths and weaknesses are.

Now in year 2 he should have a better understanding of what he needs to do offensively, he knows his team and what they're capable of, and he's been able to shape the roster more in his image both from an on the field persepective as well as off.

Just my 2 cents, feel free to chime in with your own list!

10. I think the sports gods are smiling on D.C.! Nats, Wiz, even the freakin Mystics are showing up ...

5. and 4. I think these are huge, Jansen is the real deal, from top to bottom, he is force on the field and off. Lavar, as much as I love him is overated a bit, but he has a swagger, and presesnce about him and guess what? Everyone including him belives the hype so him just being around is a plus, and having his freakish speed might help!

2. I don't think our D will be as good this year, we overachieved in 04, but we will be good enough to win 9 games. Our O on the other hand will improve, no doubt.

1. Joe came in with so much fanfare, so much hype, it had to have distracted him and the players. Now that the dust has settled and the spotlight is on other coaches, i.e. Saban, Romeo, I think the skins will have all these mothers right where they want them!!!

Good House cleaning - another reason why we for sure will win 9 and have a good chance at 10. We got rid of dead weight and non-redskins, i.e. Coles, Drop it Like its Hot, Morton, etc.

I would put Lavar and jansen together as number five and number 4 would be: Our special teams are going to be special this year helping with field position and winning a couple of games for us.

10. The one missing component "luck" will be added into the gameplan and we will win the big games.
9. A more confident Patrick Ramsey will make less "big" mistakes.
8. A rejuvenated playbook will allow a more balanced passing and running attack.
7. A healthy line with schemes designed for Portis brings his average where it should be.
6. With our renewed "team spirit" even fragile players like Santana Moss will put that behind him for the good of the team.
5. Taylor Jacobs will have a breakout year on offense.
4. Return of LaVar Arrington.
3. Great depth at nearly every position will allow for injuries with us hardly skipping a beat.
2. Speaking of not skipping a beat, the defense will pick up where they left off last year.
1. I agree with Matty, it's Joe Gibbs.

Very true. I think we often forget about how we signed players simply because they lead the team in special teams tackles. I can see us having one of the top kick and punt coverage teams in the league.

I would also had that we've only yet begun to unleash the awesome power that is Chris Cooley...and we should have a healthy John Hall

Also very true. Not to be a pessimist, but looking at all these good things we have, I'd like to also see a post saying why we could possibly fail...

Let's have some fun talking about the good first, the media has been pumping us full of the negatives all offseason, tomorrow I'll post my top 10 reasons why we won't win 10. :)

Great post, Matty. The only thing I'd add (as #10.5) is the return of Daniels to the D-line. If he stays healthy, he's a legit pass rusher who will make an impact, either by getting to the QB or by freeing up others in William's blitz-happy scheme.
