Brian Mitchell on elliott.

I was at work so I missed part of this interview and don't see it on his website yet. Did anyone else hear it? From where I came in he seemed to really be calling out Lavar. I'd watch Comcast to listen to Mitchell last year because he was a local sports caster without acting like a complete homer and would say when the skins sucked. He really seemed to call out LaVar. Said they had a great defense without him and he needs to sign up for the program and just play his own position and not other peoples. Maybe I missed part of the interview that would have put those comments into context, either way, I must admit I agree with him. What do you guys think, could someone who heard the whole thing maybe expand on what he said?

Didn't have to here it to pretty much know what he said, Mitchell called out players all last year especially Portis, and he was right every time I heard him, as for him calling Lavar out? Kudos! Everyone is afraid to tell it like it is about Lavar, and that is he is being paid mega dollars for being a personality, and a physical freak, rather than a football player, Lavar could have been so easily replaced in Williams defense it's not even funny, take a long look at who replaced him last year, a journeyman LB that's who, and we didn't mis a beat, Lavar is a legend in his own mind and a few other's, nice to know a player who backed his mouth up with his play as well as any player in history, have the guts to stand up to him, although it's that kind of tenacity that made him the greatest kick returner of all time! As for Lavar?

I didn't hear it but I think Arrington should have a chance to play in Williams defense before we start to say it would be easy to replace him in it. Who's to say Lavar wouldn't have been a great addition to Williams system last year. Until last season I think he had been are best player on D. So I don't see why when healthy he won't be a great player again. He needs to be more disciplined in his assignments but other then that I think Lavar is solid.
I guess will all know in a few months.

I agree.

People seem to like to rip on LaVar but let's at least give him the chance to play in this defense for an entire season. He saw very limited action last year, he battled back to play in a season that was a lost cause and people still want to give him crap.

Yes the defense played great without him, but who knows how much better the D may have been if we had him healthy the entire year.

Not only that, when people mention LaVar and "playing for himself" basically the entire team was in disarray. It's kind of hard to maintain discipline when the team around you isn't.

I simply can't see him coming back, seeing the "team-first" attitude that seems to be instilled in everyone, and NOT buying into what Gibbs, Williams and the rest are selling.

It's no surprise of my stance on Lavar, but I do agree that he will be better than he has been in Williams defense, I also said Edward's was one of the worst D-coordinators I have ever seen, so I am willing to cut him some slack there, but to often I see lineman get in front of Lavar and it's all over, he can't get around them, and he can't go through them, his only chance is to beat them to their spot, I have no doubt Williams will devise different plays to give Lavar that opportunity to have a unimpeted path to the QB as he will punish QB's when he does, I just believe that other LB's would be very close in production to Lavar under Williams system, then when you way his salary you start think what for?

Marshall did a solid job filling in last year, but I have to believe that Williams didn't use Marshall the same way he would have used Arrington.

So while Marshall was solid, you can't say that he has the same playmaking abilities that Arrington brings to the table. Arrington is the kind of player offenses have to account for, and with Williams I'm sure he'll take full advantage of his skills.

I agree. Also, a lot of people were high on Clemens (like Marshall, another former "no name" player) as a 3rd down pass rusher, but who knows if he would have even gotten in the game had LA been healthy and able to fill that role as was expected before the injury.

The real credit has to go to Williams for knowing exactly how to make these adjustments.

How many times has LaVar gotten burned from "freelancing". Basicly I think Mitchell is just trying to say that he needs to buy into the system because there's no way he can blame the system or the talent after the year they had last year.

LaVar is physically a great player, let's see if he can adopt the no-stars team mentallity our defense was able to adapt last year.

I heard the thing on elliot, what happened was elliot spoke about the offense then the Defense and how our defense was amazing last year and said that we won't have injuries. If i remeber right then Brian said something about how everything was great last year and they need players to play their parts that they are meant to play. Ellliot said that he would take Lavar on the field rather than off it any day. Brian said that he would need to stay diciplined, he repeated that people would have to play THEIR positions and not try to move to much around and play other players position. He said that he would have to do what he is supposed to do, nothing more.

Agreed that Big LA could be replaced but seriously he was the face of the team 12 months ago. We see how we could do without him, we have to remeber the change did not come with lavar leaving it was greg williams comming. just think about the plans that GW has for arrington and many of us here in a earlier thread were expecting arrington to get 8+ sacks. It seemed that Mitchell was trying to say that everything was good last year and that arrington's moving around and not staying where he is supposed to could hurt the team. I agree with him. I hope arrington does adopt that, in the past was he the most disciplined LB, probally not but as long as he can try I don't see how arrington comming back won't be a positive,
but i understand what offsiss is trying to say, if i understand right i think you feel arrington will help but not for what his contract is worth. I understand and agree, we pay him too much. but we are stuck, just like with brunnel, we pay the man a lot but hopefully we will see what we pay him for next year.
Many of us can see Lavar getting 10+ sacks, and we know that will help the team a lot, lets just hope lavar fits right in, and GW will make hell sure of that.
