Wow, that would have been hilarious if Gibbs was like, "Are you a McCAN or a McCANT?"

Geez! Hate to break it to ya.....Ade is gone....right now he is just roster filler...In case you were wondering, so is Rufus...
Rod will stay around through training camp in case a team has an injury and needs someone right away.
He will be one of the last cuts, if he gets cut.
With Dyson, Gardener, Moss, Patten, Brown and Jacobs we would have a balanced attack...
Moss , Patten, Brown and Jacobs are speedy.
Gardener and Dyson are big.
Dyson is a great ST player.
No room for Thrash and McCantAndWonts...I mean McCants

no offense, but have you been following the offseason? gardner is long gone and thrash will be a redskin for life, he's the best ST player on the team... ade is good on ST too and both ade and rufus managed to make the team last year, so i wouldn't be surprised to see them make the cut again... both are liked by williams.

Ade is an excellent special teams player along with Thrash, they will both be on the squad. Mccant will probably be gone and we all know Rod Gardner is history. Draft picks normally don't sign until early July...they will get it done.

It amazes me how some people overreact to every freaking offseason signing.
So we signed another experienced DB....so what? We all know Williams likes to use a lot of them, plus the roster right now is 80 players. That means 27 players will be gone by the start of the season. At this point, I'd rather them try to sign experienced guys to compete in training camp, rather than guys that have not played an NFL game on this side of the Atlantic.

As for signing the rookies, very few rookies are signed before mid-July, so I wouldn't worry about that...it appears that the Redskins aren't, and it's their job to get it done.

As for Hawkins, don't know much about him, but I see that he is a veteran that has played and started in the league, so he is either just someone to push the younger guys, or a guy that wants to prove that he can still play and will really push for the nickel/dime back spot. Either way, it's good for the team.

I agree SkinsRock. We shouldn't be getting our panties in a bunch over this signing. You want to go to camp with plenty of warm bodies, for competition and for depth in case of injuries.

Talent and a heartbeat?

Sounds like someone we like to sign...

i would like to think that given the amount of injuries on defense last season we would have about 400 DBs in at camp and then cut it down to the 8-10 we need on the roster. The more people with experience trying for the spots, the better. The more people GW can use in different schemes, the better.

Go Skins!

I also agree that another experienced DB is a good thing. Hawkins is not a bad player.

But I agree more with whoever it was that said we need a pass rushing DE. How many years are the Skins going to go without addressing this need? Especially seeing how pass rushing specialist (in the ND Kalu mold) go fairly cheap in the draft. The biggest help to any secondary is a good rush!

I have a problem with the NFL teams waiting until a few weeks before camp to start negotiations with their high draft picks. The problem I have is when negotiations take longer than expected and the player is late to training camp, the player is the one that is blamed. The the media and fans end up blaming the "greedy" players. Why not start negotiations in early June?

The reason might be because NFL teams use the deadline of the start of training camp as a negotiating tactic. In other words they try to pressure players to sign a more favorable contract or risk being the greedy 'camp holdout". When negotiations go slow and it looks like a player may become a camp holdout, you always hear the coach or GM spining it on TV and saying, 'if Billy Bob (the rookie) is a holdout his chances of starting and contributing are less.' Then the teams start removing money off the table for every day that they hold out.

Just my take.
