Portis wont be getting the short yardage TD's. Thats Why we drafted those big full-backs. He'll end up with 7 or 8.
Portis in 2005aehs77 06-14-2005, 01:57 PM Portis wont be getting the short yardage TD's. Thats Why we drafted those big full-backs. He'll end up with 7 or 8. TheMalcolmConnection 06-14-2005, 02:13 PM I'm going with 1500+, he ALMOST got there last year and was injured for one of those games. Not to mention the patchwork offensive line, new coaching staff with a whole new philosophy to learn AND playing against the Steelers and Eagles defenses more than once. I say 1500+ easily. PSUSkinsFan21 06-14-2005, 02:31 PM 1500+..........with absolutely zero doubt in my mind. It's all been said already. Healthier o-line (Jansen), improved o-line (Rabach), second year with Bugel as o-line coach, second year under Gibbs (more productive offense.....better play calling), Ramsey as the QB, and speedier WRs. Most importantly, I think he gets those 1500+ yards with a much higher YPC (I'll throw out 4.8 as a guess). skinsguy 06-14-2005, 02:37 PM Portis would have gotten to 1500 this past year with an offensive line that wasn't the best in the league and with Portis not playing the last couple of games. If blocking is improved at least a little bit...you'll see Portis easily going over 1500 yards. It doesn't matter how many TDs Portis scores...I believe his TDs will come off of receiving out of the backfield and breaking some long runs....the majority of goal line or red zone TDs will probably be scored by Cooley. TheMalcolmConnection 06-14-2005, 02:56 PM I agree. Portis also showed he had some great hands. I can see him being "our" Westbrook. He had some huge gains after the catch last year. We just have to get him in the open field, that's where he is most dangerous. Ron Burgundy and Gold 06-14-2005, 03:13 PM True but what I'm saying is who cares if it's Portis or someone else who gets the TDs? hm yeah I agree with that, but I'd like to see Clinton get some breakaway TD's like the first carry of the season last year, I mean 63 yard touchdown runs arent very common but with his skill he should be able to break off 30 and 40 yard touchdown runs, help stretch the offense out, help the verticality of the offense by drawing more defenders into the box and opening up play action routes. I think it's a very telling sign of our offense that he only ran for 5 last year, I expect him to double that this year. Sheriff Gonna Getcha 06-14-2005, 03:14 PM IF he's not injured, I'd say he'll get somewhere around 1500 yards. Sheriff Gonna Getcha 06-14-2005, 03:15 PM Not only do I love Portis' running game, but he's a good pass catcher (as has been pointed out) and he's a damn good blocker - especially for his size. TheMalcolmConnection 06-14-2005, 03:23 PM In one of the highlight films posted on this site, it shows him making a HELL of a block... Riggo44 06-14-2005, 03:26 PM 1500 + I'll say he gets 1821 yards. Not a yard less and not a yard more. ;) :httr: |
