skinsfan69 03-24-2024, 11:54 AM The brass is meeting with McCarthy tonight for dinner before pro day tomorrow.
I’m hearing more about Vikings wanting to trade up for Maye.
We may(e) end up with a haul of picks, a second tier QB like McCarthy or Penix. I’m also hearing Justin Jefferson is in play. 👀
FYI, Penix is not a 2nd tier QB imo. He may be in the eyes of the media, and maybe some teams, fans... but when you watch his games, he is the best QB in this draft. He makes more "NFL" type of throws, tight window, deep balls, you name it. And although I like Daniels, I think he is 2nd among the QB's IMO, I don't see him having an elite arm like Penix does. But he can make up for that w/ his running and playmaking. So therefore I'm all in favor of trading back and grabbing Penix.
McCarthy? He just doesn't have elite skills, neither as a runner or passer.

The best ability is availability. If Penix wasn't dealing with injuries so often his stock would be higher.
skinsfaninok 03-24-2024, 01:30 PM JJ’s tape is pretty good. He’s your prototypical pocket passer. Accurate, good arm and throws on time. Idk if I’d take him at 2 but he’ll go top 15 I bet

nonniey 03-24-2024, 02:01 PM The concern I have with Daniels is his post season draft ranking rise. Most rankings had him outside the top 10 in January while Maye was generally ranked top 5 then. (Note most still have Maye higher than Daniels). I just don't like going with late risers, we did that with Jamin Davis and Forbes and that didn't pan out. I'd prefer Maye over Daniels (and Williams over both).

I've never seen a qb take his team to the title game and have his stock hit so badly. Kid was nearly flawless up to that game last year. Michigan had an absurdly good defense- national title like. Penix has a cannon, is a superb leader, highly accurate and good pocket presence. Would not be surprised at all if he has a great pro career.
skinsfaninok 03-25-2024, 10:46 AM I would be happy with Penix if we took Joe Alt at 3 or 4 and then took Penix at 33

Yeah, late risers are often the result of media and fan adulation, often fuelled by the agents who actively look to disparage the competing players. Daniels was rated as a 3rd round pick before last season, before the predraft hype machine got into full swing there was no doubt Maye was one of the best prospects of the last decade, now some talking heads declare he isn't even a 1st rounder . I will leave it to the FO to sift the facts from the innuendo, but there seem to be a lot of people, even here, who are absolutely convinced Daniels is a star and will likley be complaining loudly if he is not the pick at #2.

KI Skins Fan 03-25-2024, 11:52 AM Recently watched a podcast where NFL personnel people said that because of the exceptional abilities of the QBs at the top of this draft class that many people are nit-picking the qualifications of all of the QB's in this class. Caleb is such a transcendent talent that it causes people to have doubts about JD and Maye in comparison to him. Likewise, JD and Maye are so talented that evaluators start to point out correctable flaws in Penix, JJ, and Nix.. The bottom line for the experts on the podcast was that for teams that miss out on one of the top three there are still very good QBs available.

All true, but one of the qualities that pundits and football ppl see in Daniels is the ability to learn and improve. It’s a counterpart to raw athleticism and a quality that, for example, CY is deficient in. AP, DQ, & co. are looking for coach-ability, work ethic, mental processing speed, in addition to toughness, arm strength, accuracy, elusiveness and the other obvious QB qualities.
All top 5 QBs are studs, and all have potential NFL level issues. Let’s get the one whose issues OUR coaching staff knows how to fix and the one they know will listen and make adjustments.
