Can't quite explain exactly why, but this would make it a surprise if they got rid of Howell.
Is there a good vet option that would happily come in knowing we have no OL?
And it makes me think there's a trade of picks coming, maybe QB at #2 then trade back up to grab LT in rd 1? Or there's a vet LT they've got their eyes on, if not talking to already, they're confident they can land.
No reason to get rid of Howell unless they can get something like a 3rd for him. On a cheap rookie deal and it isn’t as though we can carry only 1 QB on the roster.

If we can re-sign Brissett, I'd absolutely trade Howell to the highest bidder.
Brissett and Maye/Daniels with an extra pick to draft another possible starter, works for me. Hell, could even use that pick (or a later pick now available ) for a 3rd developmental QB.

I would at least explore whether a trade down to 3, 4 or 5 could net a significant increase in picks, If it could then I might take the best left tackle at 3,4 or 5 and then trade back in to the first as high as I can with a few second round picks to get a qb.

The Pats cut JC Jackson. Was a once excellent CB who is only 29. Does anyone think he is worth taking a look at?

Absolutely. CB is a huge need on this team.

If they are not concerned which QB they take they could certainly trade down to 3 if the Patriots are desperate for a particular guy , then you are in the MHJ zone and if the Chargers fancy jumping over the Cards to get him you could move down to 5 and still get the 3rd QB, but that is a gamble, but you may also be able to persuade the Cards to move up one spot to make sure they get MHJ if they think the Chargers are serious.... the possibilities are endless which is what makes the draft so addictive for fanbases.

He got paid by the Chargers…and quit on the team. Traded back to the Pats and was benched

Passing on himI understand that, but I'm wondering if our defensive staff which, by all accounts, gets the most out of their players could get him back to his Pro Bowl form ( and he went to Maryland )

My thoughts too. At least talk to him if you think the film gives you cause for interest. But if his ego gets in the way of his performance (I'm too good for this team), then thanks but no thanks.
