I don't think Caleb will play within the confines of an NFL offense. He wants to play hero ball too much. It works fine in college cause of his athletic ability. But once an NFL defensive coordinator defends him w/ NFL athletes I think his game will struggle. He'll throw late, he'll want to scramble when he won't need to and so on.
If I were the Bears I would stick w/ Fields cause I don't think Caleb will be any better. Or that much better.
I see a lot of RG3 in Caleb. Poor mechanics, great athlete, obsessed w/ his brand, massive hype machine and most importantly, his style will struggle at the next level.
Maye? Like I said I only saw two of his games. But what is his signature moment? In every great college player I want to see that game where he has the "it" game. He played like crap against NC State? Clemson? You gotta do it against the best teams in your conference and I didn't see anything against those two.
What I like about Daniels is he just got better. And kept getting better. Maybe that will happen w/ Maye but taking him at #2 is overdrafting him, but teams do it every year.
This is where I’m at, especially on Caleb Williams. Terrible footwork, the guy NEVER has his feet set, always off platform. (Which is where the Mahomes comparisons come from). Like you said, I don’t believe his game will translate to the NFL, because he’s not as fast or agile as Murray, who plays a similar game. Especially with a shit line, the guy is going to get crushed in the NFL.
With you on Maye, as far as the signature game. I will say he does pass the eye test. Tall, strong armed, athletic, and most of all HE GOES THROUGH HIS PROGRESSIONS ON READS. To my eyes, he does this best of the three QBs.
Daniels is by far the best athlete. Agile, fast, and has that quick twitch and gone ability like Mike Vick. He is third in ability to read defenses and go through his progressions on the route tree. 4/5 times he has his hot read, and if not there, he ticks and runs, in fact, that is his first instinct.
Caleb seems the biggest risk, and would not trade anything for him. The high ceiling of potential might be too great if he was to fall to #2 to pass.
Maye looks the part, and I would wager is most likely to succeed in becoming a bonifide NFL (upper echelon) QB.
Daniels has a ton of potential, but the biggest question is can he learn to pre snap read, and read defenses in order to become a complete QB. To be honest, I haven’t seen that from him, and I’ve seen all of his games at LSU. He may become a Mike Vick level, where he’s the best athlete on the field, but not so great of a passer, just ok. Or, he may realize his potential and become something of a Lamar Jackson or better, maybe say Randall Cunningham.
My 2 cents.
