I'm not willing to take that gamble. When you are in the position to take a QB at 2 you pull the trigger. No guarantee what so ever that Daniels will be there in a trade back. Then what? Hope to trade up in a worse QB draft next season after trotting out some cast off QB and writing off 2024? Who know where they will be picking next year, it could cost what you got in the trade back. And for what? To lose a year and possible settle for a worse QB prospect?
No I believe they will stay at 2 and take whichever QB they like the best. And I'm fine with that.
Well they don’t just “hope” someone will still be there. They will communicate with any other team between 2 and 7 that might need a quarterback. I hear what you are saying, but it isn’t exactly blind faith.
Just pointing out that landing your quarterback and picking up major draft capital is better than just landing your quarterback. Also that with Ron gone and Peters here there is a chance that we can accomplish such things.

But it's not just the teams picking 2-7. Any number of teams could trade with one of those teams and jump ahead of the Commanders. No I firmly believe when you have a chance like this you pull the trigger and don't mess around. And I believe that's exactly what they will do, especially if they really like Maye more than Daniels which is entirely possible.

No. Nobody can trade with teams picking 2-7 and jump ahead of us. We pick second. The only team anyone can trade with to move ahead of us is Chicago. If some team trades with Chicago to jump ahead of us there is nothing we can do about that.
That isn’t the scenario I am talking about though. What I am saying is that if we are on the clock, and we want Daniels or Maye or whoever than you work those phones. You try and trade back to a spot where you can still get the guy and gain major picks also. It isn’t based on a gamble it is based on intel and some other team that wants say Harrison Jr at 2.

I think you missed his point there, punch.
What he means is if you trade back to 7 what's to stop someone below that trading up to 3-6 to pinch your QB?

Gotcha. Confused me how he put it. It could happen- would be like 4-5 teams that could trade back at that point. But I am assuming when we decide to trade back that we are talking to those teams. Look there are a million scenarios, all i know is it is nice to have respected people running the show and one of those scenarios is us moving back a few spots and still getting one of those 3 quarterbacks.
If Peters thinks it could leave us at 6 or 7 and the big 3 quarterbacks are gone than I agree… don’t do it. I want one of those quarterbacks. I would love to have it unfold where we still get one and gain picks. Obviously we all would.

unless you gamble and lose. The only real reason someone would be trading up is for a QB. Unless Penix is tops on their board or something, you don't want to get fancy and end up shooting yourself in the foot.

Not suggesting gambling. Just utter due diligence and a well vetted maneuver that allows us to pick up Daniels somewhere between 3/4-6/7.
Pipe dream? Sort of, but one that is doable. I wouldn’t trade past 6/7. I think we could get Daniels there. You would have to have a solid handle on what the other 5-6 teams want and whether they would trade out allowing some other team to move way up. That team would have to be willing to overpay heavily for Daniels. Worst case scenario we get some heavy duty compensation for 2, and start building one hell of a roster. Might have to wait another year for a quarterback but if it means a stud TE, OT, and G this time around I wouldn’t be that upset.
Hate it Punch.
You’ve been watching that Kevin Costner draft movie haven’t you?
Waiting gets you a worst draft position and forces the team to accept the 4th or 5th best QB next year or you gotta trade up giving away all that draft capital you got in trading down plus more.
Just two more wins next year and the team is drafting out of the top 10.
These jackasses couldn’t get a top tier HC. I doubt they are going to pull off any big time draft trades.

You need to leave your pipe dream ideas at the door because it won't happen. First off there is no way to know what the other teams will do. Teams lie all the time and will never tell a competitor what they will do. And even if they did they are making no promises to Washington that they won't take a good offer for pick # 6 and to another team who will jump ahead of the Commanders.
