The thing to keep in mind about trading back into the 1st round is, not just that you're getting a superior player, you are also getting 1-more year with the pick on a rookie contract. That's a big plus.

I'm really hoping for a desperate team when we're on the clock at 36 (if we are).

Would love one of those 3rd this year 1st next year for a high 2nd type deals you see once in a while.

Yes I would love to get a first next year from someone even if that means not filling the LT spot this offseason. We simply have to find more impact players.

We need to get a left tackle that's going to be starting in this league for 10 years and then clone him and the quarterback so that in case of injuries (which you know we will have) we can just bring in the clones

Totally. The worst thing we can do is not give a rookie QB a line he has confidence in. Who knows, maybe the difference between Stroud and Young last year was the crap OL of the Panthers? Maybe our rookie QB isn't taking us to the playoffs, but he definitely ain't behind a crap OL, and who knows what damage we do to him if we don't protect him as best we can. Not to mention being able to use the run to ease that pressure too. 2nd and/or 3rd pick needs to be an LT. And personally I'd like to see a trade back into the 1st to get the best guy we can.

I think they'll need to do that to draft a LT who can start right away. When the run on the top LT prospects starts at the draft, they'll need to jump in immediately with a trade offer to move up and get one. It will cost but it will probably be worth it.

I can certainly see your point, which is why I had said earlier that I'm torn on the idea of moving up to take a LT this draft. I guess it depends on how much they have to give up and who the player is. We are probably not talking about moving all the way up to get Alt or any of the top guys, so that leaves the next level. This is a good tackle draft for sure, if we can really get that guy at say 19 I'd support that move. But if it's for a good but not great prospect I'm not so sure. Having an extra first next year could mean adding 2 impact players in the first round.

i would do what it takes to get to 10 - 13, that's where the top OT's are going. I would even trade next year's 1st if it means getting the number 1 or 2 rated tackle.

Not sure they will be that aggressive.

I'm with CRed on this.
QB, LT, and Edge Rusher are the 3 most important positions in the NFL.

With an elite LT, you don't have to change your blocking scheme to game plan for a good pass rusher and you don't have to use a TE/RB to chip block.
