Because they were smart enough to keep swinging at the QB position. They took Lance in 2021 and took Purdy with a late pick in 2022.
Keep swinging at it until you're sure you've hit. We might take Williams or Maye but if we see someone we like in later rounds we should take them too.
Robert Griffin III gave rise to Kirk Cousins. Trey Lance gave rise to Brock Purdy. That's the model, keep swinging.
Kirk was picked because of Kyle; they obviously know what they are doing

SF was able to withstand that massive miss. Down right awful draft pick. Just goes to show how fickle it is drafting QB's. Their 7th rounder ended up being better than the first rounder.
This is what scares me about drafting a qb this year. You can do all the research and homework you want, but even the best ones fuck it up. Hopefully we don't miss. I also agree about keep swinging - the Cardinals were quick to move on from Rosen when it was clear he wasn't the guy.

*whispers Trey Lance*
To strengthen your argument, he also traded for CY
But I still take him

So would I. and the CY move isn’t necessarily bad - for a team poised for a SB run, even small upgrades can make the difference and CY and Bosa on the edges is scary.
Whiffed on Trey Lance for sure but there no evaluator anywhere that wouldn’t be guilty of a big swing and miss. And as pointed out above, they’re still a favorite to get to the SB. They have depth on that roster everywhere.

Speaking of Kirk, some teams should seriously consider going after him on a 2 or 3 year contract. Seattle is a team that has enough talent for him to make a big difference. Perhaps Atlanta, as well. I read that Tampa Bay is considering extending Baker Mayfield which I think would be a terrible move when they might be able to sign Kirk.

Bill Belichick as HC in Atlanta, bring in Kirk with Jay Gruden as OC...bam instant contender.

It’s down to Peters and Cunningham for President of Football operations per everyone

Keim reported that we haven't shown any interest in Belchick, which is a relief for now..

I thought they were both candidates for the GM position. If one of them becomes President of Football Ops, could that mean Martin Mayhew might keep his job as GM?
