Chief X_Phackter 10-02-2023, 03:35 PM True, but who did they ignore to take who they did? Forbes was a good pick (though maybe I'd have taken Gonzalez instead), but after that? Martin? Mauch or trading back would probably be better choices. Stromberg maybe best at that point (debatable) but if we'd traded back, we'd have had more picks and more options. Daniels, better than Carter Warren?
Yes 4 of 7 were DB and OL, but we probably passed up on better options that would have properly bolstered our OL and LB corps. Both were sorely in need and they still are.
I was pointing out the strategy, not whether the particular picks will pan out, which we may not know for some time.
Chief X_Phackter 10-02-2023, 03:40 PM Anyway, who are we to say what was "supposed to be" the 2023 strategy.
The strategy is to get better - period. Lots of ways to do that, and thousands more ways to pick those decisions apart
skinsfan69 10-02-2023, 03:56 PM Sam Howell needs to be developed. I’m taking QB off the board in the first round next year.
Oline, Oline, Oline next year
I 100% agree with this and then some. And he is going to have some more rough patches but I don't care. He more than passes the eye test. That was some big boy shit yesterday, especially on that last drive. That is exactly what you look for in your QB.
SFREDSKIN 10-02-2023, 04:16 PM The first four picks (out of seven) were secondary and o-line.
Should have picked a T earlier than the 4th round. Mason Brooks played T in college, they should develop him to play T instead of inside ASAP.

Completely ignored LB and those Oline picks were reaches. Especially Daniels. The Martin pick was a reach too. Bottom line is we need a GM.

Sorry, my point got lost in there. Its not the strategy itself, as much as the ability of this staff to pick effectively. I don't think they did and the glaring holes still there seem to back that up.

But at least he got Andrew Wylie !! [emoji2961] [emoji90]
sdskinsfan2001 10-02-2023, 04:40 PM I lost the post-game thread war so badly, my thread got deleted. skinsfaninok is Cox and I'm Cosmi.
Normally, I hate playing on Thursdays, but I think a short turn around will be nice here. Get this nasty taste out of our mouths asap.

It wasn't deleted the threads were combined

LB was "filled" in free agency... only so many draft picks. Barton wouldn't have been my choice, but the position was addressed as part of the overall strategy.
Anyway, like I said, there are many ways to pick apart the actual decisions, but we may not know for some time if those decisions (specific players) were "correct", and we'll never know if the players we didn't pick would have worked out.
