Defensewins, I completely agree with you. I hate to ramble on about statistics, but I'm basically going on instinct. I look at everything and take all factors into account. I'm no scout, but I do know that no QB is perfect. Take this kid Ramsey, drafed below Carr and Harrington. Put him in a college coach's "fun-n-gun" offense. Let the kid take repeated beatings because he's in a system that offers minimal blocking schemes. Enter a new coach, a completely new convoluted system that emphasizes protecting the QB. So involved at times that our tight ends and recievers wouldnt even know where to line up. Hire a washed up veteran QB and let him play through almost 75% of the season. Take your 3rd year kid who was the starter and thrust him into this system becuase you realize your "consistent" veteran QB wasn't so consistant at all anymore. All I'm saying is given Ramsey's circumstances and what he's had to deal with, he has shown through all of this. Brett favre last year tried to throw a touchdown 5 yards past the line of scrimmage. Aaron Brooks is throwing the ball backwards. Peyton Manning throws 50 touchdowns during the regular season, but looks like his younger brother in playoff games. PLEASE guys, it's just a matter of time before your singing his praises becuase we've made it to the playoffs and not just becuase of our stellar defense.

Whenever someone around my neck of the woods asks me about Ramsey, I like to point them at the opening game in the 2003 season. Their opening game vs. the Jets, just after raiding their roster. If you ask me, he was really showing flashes of what he could become. I'm not talking stat-wise either. He just looked like someone who could be big time if given the right amount of time.

This being said, I have no idea if he could potentially be a long-term solution. Like I said, I've seen him, but only in bits and pieces. Since the game I was talking about, he's had an injury, a new system, the starting job yanked out from under him and NOW he has huge turnover at receivers and a freshly drafted rookie looking to take his job. Hopefully he'll play the whole year without some crazy interruptions and we'll get a better idea of if he's the real deal. If we don't give him at least that, I have a feeling he'll have another jersey on soon.

Ramsey hasn't been the starter for a full season in a stable system yet. His rookie year he was in and out of the lineup and probably played before he was really ready to. Year 2 he started off hot but once NFL defensive coordinators caught on to Spurrier's kindergarten blocking schemes he got pounded silly.

He showed promise down the stretch last year and was 110% better at the end of the year compared to the preseason when he looked atrocious.

I'm confident he'll play very well this year.

I for one am not sold on Ramsey but obviously am hoping for the best.. I want to see him WIN games for us not manage them effectively. Managing games will beat bad and mediocre teams but talent and execution beat the good teams.. That's where Ramsey hasn't shown up yet. He needs to step up and be the man when the team needs him to be before I will give him the all clear.

All of us wanted to see PR be successful at the position because we were looking for that "Savior" at the QB position. We didn't have much in terms of a QB ahead of him on the depth chart when he made his first appearence in that come from behind victory against the Titans, therefore we all wanted him to be "The Man" because he's a nice guy with a strong arm. Well I'm afraid it takes a little more than that to be a complete QB in the NFL. Despite the fact he has played well for a few plays in some games he's still saddled with some defeciencies he must learn to overcome before he is to be successful at this level.
The knocks: Slow of foot; A QB in the pocket has to be like a PR preparing to return, he must be able to make the first potential tackler "miss". How many times have we seen the first guy in on Ramsey take him for a sack? On the contraty, how many times will you see the first guy take down Mc'Nabb? Holds the ball too long allowing Blitzers a better opportunity to reach him. Problems reading deep coverages causing indecision. Lack of touch on short pass routes. I see all these things being correctable and a challenge for PR to move forfeward in being a more complete QB in the NFL. I certainly will be looking for signs of improvement this season, if not his stay here may not be as lengthly as we had hoped.

We will make the Play-off's in 05 "Regardless"!!!!!

The coming season will put an end to the argument about the system. PR has played, and started enough games to be more efficient on a consistent basis than he has shown thus far. Granted, he played under a flawed system when Spurrier was coaching, but the "System" has nothing to do the inability to read Pro Defence's, holding the ball until he's sacked, and slowed mechanics coupled with a lack of touch on many passes both long and short. Except for being slow (Footwork) his other problems can be corrected. and will have to be in order for him to be a success at this level. By me being an eternal optomist I'm always hoping for the best and I really want PR to be successful. I think most of us on this board feel the same way. However, JG is the coach and there has to be a real reason why he continues to undermine PR by looking to alternates in his stead.

I believe Ramsey will go as far as Gibbs is perpared to take him, he's going to be [IMO] an outstanding QB, but he need's Gibbs to get catch up and get everyone playing on the same page. Last season we had to many player's on offense thinking instead of doing and that includes Gibbs, hopefully with a year under their belt's the system will start to blossom along with Ramsey.
