No team will do that on the last year of a contract (Won't even trade a 2d for that matter).

They would effectively have him for three years, if they pick up the option after trade, assuming the trade happens before the deadline, and franchise tag after that

Just wondering here...if they did pick up the option on him, would they have owed him a considerable amount of money right now? If so, they may not have it due to the sale and Snyder not footing the bill on anything right now. I'm probably wrong on this, but just a thought

It's hard to imagine getting much in a trade for CY. The reasons they aren't picking up the option are the same reasons no one is going to give up much to acquire him. They'll probably draft a DE in the first three rounds, get an extension done with Sweat, and let Chase walk after the season. There is almost no way to keep them both, and the evidence seems to point to them being more apt to keeping Sweat - if they are going to choose between the two.

Unfortuently CY wasn't the superstar most labeled him as.. He really only has 1 pass rush move and its his speed.. He's a good player but not worth huge $$

I mean, I still wouldn't write off him playing here next year. The difference between the option and a tag is under $2mill. So if they don't get a good offer, at least they don't have to fire sale the guy. He's still good enough to start here and play well.

We have the luxury of having options with Chase right now. Everything's on the table - let's see what happens.

If this is the end of his run in DC I'm cool with it, best case scenario he balls out next year and we potentially don't have enough room to pay him and Montez (and obv. Montez is the steady reliable choice to get paid too) so he walks anyways. Let's get something for him if we can.

You know what? How about CY shut up, get on the field and finally show why he was taken at no 2 overall.

Everything else is just noise

The best part of the decision to not pick up his option (assuming he isn't traded), is that he is now in a prove it year. He has no choice but to ball out if he wants to get paid. That's good for our defense. I don't know if it will happen, but the stage is set.

That cost the Giants with Jones.

I agree. Not picking up his option was the best move for the team.
