this isn't high school football, the starters want their PT and you got keep your QB1 happy.
We don't have a Brady/ Rogers that you could sit and they be fine with it in a blow out. You sit anyone this year on our team at QB1 and you would rattle their confidence; its because every QB on our team was constantly looking over their shoulder and rightly fully so because none of the 3 were QB1 material in this season.
What confidence? Lol minus TH and his run this year there was no such thing. And i think TH is mentally tough enough and been through enough that he'd go out and play to the best of his ability, even as small as it is, and put that aside.
SFREDSKIN 01-09-2023, 12:43 PM That is different than reaching early or paying a Carr. I have no problem with selecting a quarterback at some point if there is a guy we like. T Rich is probably the only guy that falls to 16 as far as first rounders go. If we select him and let the two guys battle it out in camp it isn’t the worst thing in the world BUT it is going to be really hard to rebuild the line if we do that. My guy says grab oline in the first and run with Howell. Taylor wants to stay on for backup money cool. Should not be hard to find a backup in free agency if not. My gut tells me Sam is the guy and I hope we don’t “throw him out” or let him rot on the bench before he goes on to better things else where and we once again had the guy until we didn’t.
I just keep thinking imagine what we saw yesterday but with a better team around him? He isn’t going to lose his arm strength or his mobility. He has all that and it’s invaluable. It is what we wanted all year - Carson couldn’t move. Taylor had a noodle arm. Sam has a gun and wheels. Build around it. Of all the chances we have taken with different quarterbacks and all the things we have given up to do so …. Take a chance by dedicating all our resources to building around this guy. It won’t cost anything to do so.
Idk im done. I’ve casted my vote. Lol. Im going all in with Sam. Now go get him a line and an OC to make it work! We certainly have the weapons in place already.
Me too, if they draft a QB go for TCU's QB.

The confidence of being the starting QB.
IMO we are splitting hairs a few reps in a meaningless blow out was never going to speed the development of SH and to your point getting yanked for a few reps in a meaningless blow out was never going to rattle TH/CW.
Point is moot.
I think a lot of times folks like to think of scenarios to further shit on this coaching staff. Not that i think they are great but at some point we are just pissing on dead horses.
SFREDSKIN 01-09-2023, 12:54 PM The only reason folks here have doubts on Howell is because he was drafted in the 5th round and his height. Well, guess what? He's going to prove all the doubters wrong, will win the starting job and be your QB of the future. Get used to it.

I think a lot of fans are underestimating Snyder's meddling of the team, and how much that has shit on the coaching staff (past and present). Let's take a look at the QBs Snyder has forced the team to get:
Wentz
Haskins
Alex Smith (love the guy, but still)
RG3
That's several years of wasted picks, money, development, effort, etc., etc. Not to justify or be an apologist for the current coaching staff, but I think people tend to forget that our horrible owner still meddles with football matters.

And I think going forward with Howell is best for everyone. I don't want the current team administration to mortgage the future in trading for a QB, when they could be potentially out in 2024. You can use the offseason to get Howell to be the #1 guy and just fix the o-line.

Yep, as simple as that. The team has weapons all around that have not been exploited. if anything and I hate to say this, trade Samuel if you can get a 3rd rounder and put Brown as his replacement who is very familiar with Howell.
punch it in 01-09-2023, 01:07 PM Meh, i disagree, you are using hindsight in your evaluation, at the time TH and CW were the best options we had for a playoff push.
I think we are also losing sight that the Cowboys clearly had their eyes set for next weekend. Its great we won but that was not a fired up Cowboys team by any means.
Here is thought what if you bundle SH and some draft picks to move up for one of the top picks in this years draft? Would you pull that trigger?
Well I have been calling for Howell for weeks along with others including SF the president of his fan club. So not hindsight. And I don’t remember anyone saying Carson is the guy. Lol.
Didn’t Dallas have a chance to win the division? If they were conceding to the Eagles I find it hard to believe they would have started everyone. We surprised them and kicked their asses.
Depends what you mean by draft picks. Im not sold on anyone coming out this year.
Howell was projected as a first rounder for alot of his time in college. He was a little off senior year. Maybe a little gun shy thinking he didn’t want to get injured and ruin his shot? He played for UNC so what was the best thing he had to play for an ACC coastal division championship shot at Clemson? I think teams were a little afraid of his height at 6-1. That is dumb. Howell was an absolute steal in the fifth round. Im not giving up serious picks and an unknown for another unknown. At least I saw Howell play an NFL game and look extremely solid. So no im not pulling that trigger. Not for someone who isn’t a Trevor Lawrence. And there is no Trevor Lawrence coming out.

It was about evaluating him not developing him. It was one more tool they could have used that is all. If the coaching staff was worried about the confidence of our backup QB not being able to fulfill his duties because Sam Howell got a few reps I don't know what to say about that.

Either that or trade brown, we spent a 3rd rounder on him and he is being kept from the starting lineup by the guys in front. Only have 2 more years under his rookie contract to see if he deserves a new one. They could flat out cut Samuel and save a chunk of capspace, if Turner leaves I am not sure Samuel as curently used has a place in a new offence, certainly wouldn't replace either of the outside guys.
