Chief X_Phackter 02-27-2023, 04:36 PM Spotrac estimates their next contracts like this:
Gesicki: 4 years/$33 mil. Average salary: $8.2 mil
Engram: 3 years/$28 mil. Average salary: $9.3 mil.
Chief X_Phackter 02-27-2023, 04:40 PM Well Bates will be going into his 3rd year. And you're forgetting Curtis Hodges.
That's because he's at least the 5th TE on the depth chart. Has he played a NFL snap?

The team liked all three rookie TEs Turner, Rodgers, and Hodges. I think they were able to keep all three of them through IR and what not. I *think* Turner went on IR or something like that?
I don't mind them bringing a veteran TE, but I know that all three rookies showed a lot of promise this past off-season, to the point that they did not want to release them.
Chief X_Phackter 02-27-2023, 04:46 PM I don't even remember him - Hodges.
All I know is the TE group as a whole has been unimpressive of late. Of course the LT injury and lack of capability at the QB position had a lot to do with that. Is either issue resolved? I'm not sure we know yet.
SFREDSKIN 02-27-2023, 05:37 PM They can release him, but I'd look to add a TE via free agency if they did. There are several solid younger TE options in free agency. Gesicki or Engram would be a nice addition...
No need to spend money money where don’t need it, pay Payne, Sweat and young.
Chief X_Phackter 02-27-2023, 05:46 PM I would argue that paying Payne is the definition of "spending money where don't need it", and there's no way they can pay Sweat, Young, Payne, & Allen.
They could save about $7 mil by releasing Thomas. If that would allow them the flexibility to add a Gesicki/Engram type, I'd be all for it.

If you got no OLinemen you need to pay, why not your
DL/DE. Draft young OL and roll with it for a few years.
Chief X_Phackter 02-27-2023, 06:10 PM The O-line needs a complete overhaul that will involve both the draft and free agency.
Both starting Tackles will be 32 this year and are barely swing tackles. Trai Turner is garbage, Norwell will also be 32 and is average at best, Chase R is unreliable. Cosmi may pan out, but where...? The jury is still out on C Paul. He's played one game.
They will be paying O-linemen.

Leno is good for another year, same with Turner, draft a T, G and C. Charles, Paul, lucas. Atlanta and Seattle were able to do it, there’s lot OL talent in this draft.
FrenchSkin 02-27-2023, 06:20 PM While I’m all for using a pick on a LB later in the draft, but could you imagine tagging Payne and then adding Wagner next to Jamin Davis?
Adding a vet a LB the caliber of Wagner to this defense, I think it’s a top 5, maybe top 3.I don't know about the top 5/3 part of it, we've been expecting so much for so long, that they need to truly deliver before I crown them anything.
But agreed a 100%, I was yelling during all of last year's off-season that we needed to sign a proven MLB, Wagner was top of the list last year, I haven't checked 2023 FA LB yet but he has to be near the top of the list this year too!
