Chief X_Phackter 02-13-2023, 09:30 AM The teams (and coaches) that struggle to win, or have back to back winning seasons, are the teams (and coaches) who have been unable to find a better than average QB, or get better than average play from their QB. The QB makes all the difference.
Ron had Cam Newton for nine seasons. Three of those seasons he had injury issues. They went to the playoffs four times. The other two seasons were his first two years on the league.
Ultimately Ron's W/L record isn't that great, and he has to own it. I just think it's too easy to call him a bad coach by looking at just the record, and not taking into account everything that contributed to that, or acknowledging the great seasons he was able to put together when he had the pieces, and a good healthy QB.

9 out of 12 seasons losing records. Well 8-1/2 or whatever. Hasn’t had a winning season in 6 years? Thats all i gotta know. Every HC has obstacles. Most do not get passes for as long as he has Chief.

I totally get what you are saying. I don't necessarily disagree, like I said he has to own his record. All I am saying is, name me an NFL head coach with a consistently good W/L record, who didn't also have consistently great quarterback play for that time period. They go hand in hand.
Look at Bill Bellichick & Sean Payton after losing their Hall of Famer QBs.

BB is probably the best defensive schemer of all time. Payton probably had as much to do with Brees as Brees did. Great coaches always bring something to the table. My problem with Ron is I’m not sure what he brings.
He isn’t great with personnel. He certainly isn’t great with time management. He just isn’t a good in game coach period. He isn’t even good with the press. Throws people under the bus constantly. I just feel like he is there collecting a check because he is well liked and a good dude. I don’t know. I still hope he is shit canned before next year once the sale is finalized. I know he won’t be but I hope he is.
Forget having a great quarterback that makes you look good for a second, I get that. What does Ron do well other than being a nice guy? I think any success we have on D is 100 percent attributed to JDR.
Chief X_Phackter 02-13-2023, 01:59 PM Well to be fair he did bring in JDR. So we can give him credit for that right?
He may very well be a terrible head coach, and if you are solely judging him on his win / loss record, then I can see how you can come to that conclusion. His players seem to love him though, and I don't believe it's just because he's a good guy. He has made some questionable personnel decisions and has yet to find "the guy" at the QB position, but no one talks about the good personnel decisions, or that he has tried to bring a QB here. CW was a long shot and last resort, but he tried for Stafford, Rodgers, Wilson, friggin' Mahomes, drafted Howell....
No Head Coach is batting 1.000 with regard to personnel decisions, and over half the league is trying to find their QB.
njant 02-13-2023, 02:26 PM commanders also are interviewing greg roman i just heard for O.C. position
sdskinsfan2001 02-13-2023, 02:59 PM We're gonna set the record for most candidates interviewed.
skinsfan69 02-13-2023, 02:59 PM Why are the Eagles better than us? They have drafted QB's. They drafted Wentz, he played well for them, flamed out, then they went ahead and drafted someone else when Wentz was the entrenched starter. That is the difference. They had to balls to draft a QB in the 2nd round when they already had a guy whom they paid.
I keep saying it but you simply have to draft Qb's just about every year. Even when you have a starter you take them.
Hurts has come a long way. He is now a legit top half of the league starter. I didn't think it would happen but he has proved a lot of people wrong.
So until we can get a GM in here who has that way of thinking it really doesn't matter. It is a QB driven league and if you can get that guy then that is the way and the only way you have long term success.
SunnySide 02-13-2023, 03:00 PM Ron is, by all standards, just an absolutely awful HC. The guy is very fortunate to have been employed as one for all these years.
Rons a good Head Coach imo but hes a leader of men type, not an Xs and Os.
Needs a good OC, DC and QB.
Fans can shit on Ron ... but 8-8-1 this year was a pretty damn good job all things considered
Chico23231 02-13-2023, 03:10 PM Last night reminded me again about what our focus should be this offseason. Obviously we need to keep swinging on QB, but Oline, Oline Oline Oline Oline
Chiefs and Philly were great on both sides of the Oline. Awesome to watch
