punch it in 02-08-2023, 11:03 PM If CY was playing on the cowboys we’d be calling him a bust let’s just be real here…

If he doesn’t ball out next year he is most definitely a bust. Im still giving him a pass because of the injury. 12 games since his rookie campaign have been lackluster to say the least, but it’s only 12 games.

Makes sense. Why would you pick up the 5th year option on a guy who can't stay healthy? No offense, the pick is looking like a disaster at this point. His best year out of 3 is 7.5 sacks. That's stats not worthy for a #2 pick in the draft. Hell, Detroit's Hutchinson got 9.5 and 3 INTs his rookie year.
That's a risky game in regards to Payne. If Payne only balled this year because of becoming a FA after the season, then he can get the fuck out.
But if it's just a natural progression of a good football player becoming a great football player that coincided with going into his 5th year, you try to make it work. And he's been good for us even before this great year, so I assume this is the case. But I don't know him personally, so I don't know what is true. I do know that based on this year, he's earned a nice contract. I hope he's improving every year and we keep him. My verdict: Pay that man his money. Him and Allen can Bama Bro it or at least another 2 years.
With Chase, he did have a very good rookie year, then a nothingburger 2nd year results wise before the injury, then basically missed all of year 3. I think you have to pick up the 5th year as a gamble. Unless he's shown something bad off the field we don't know about.
sdskinsfan2001 02-08-2023, 11:10 PM It really would. A shit offensive line, shitty QBs. You would be a moron to come here as an OC.
I believe it's spelled maroon.

Who do you get that is better for $17 mill?
This is the second overall pick. You take all 5 years.

Agree, he shredded his knee in the middle of his 2nd year. Albeit, not a great year. And the injury went on way longer than at least I understood, where he essentially missed his 3rd year. But I think we need to take the bet on Chase to be who we thought we were drafting and who we saw his 1st year.
Also, if we don't extend him, he isn't coming back if he does crush it.

I honestly don't think it's a tough decision. They will pick up the option. They would be dumb not to. We're talking about $17.5M for 2024. Yeah that sounds like a lot, but the franchise tag this year is going to be almost $20M for a DE. What do you think it will be in 2025?
No way they risk him balling out after not picking up the 5th year option. Not to mention, Montez Sweat is a UFA after this year. What if they don't get a deal done with him? Then we risk not having either one in 2025? I just don't see it.
He was DROY, then had two shortened seasons due to a bad knee injury. He looked good when he came back, and he has a full off season to get back to form.
Pick up the option.
That Guy 02-08-2023, 11:55 PM You take the option on CY. If it doesn't work out, it doesn't work out. Otherwise, you have to spend picks and/or money to replace him, it's not 17.5m vs 0mill, it's 17.5 vs non-zero replacement cost, and having him there makes it easier on the rest of the DL (in a combined total talent kind of way). Obviously, Allen is the guy that really matters.

One thing I can definitely respect Ron for is that Allen and McLaurin both agreed to extend here. Our leaders on both sides of the ball.

I agree it's an easy decision. Pick up the option.

I think it’s a little premature to call Howell , who once again was projected as a top ten pick after his junior year, a shitty Quarterback NC. The little bit we did see was anything but shitty. We can also revamp the oline if Ron stays out of the decision process there. An OC that comes here would most likely have full control over the offense and even the personnel after what Ron has done to it. Bieniemy doesn’t get full credit because of Reid. If he came here he would, and honestly any OC that comes here wouldn’t have a hard time improving the shitshow we have seen recently. Put up 20 a game and your a super hero.
