It kinda sucks that it's just this one game for Howell...and probably with a lot of starters not playing, AND behind this Oline with Dallas needing to win. I fear he'll try to do TOO much to prove himself and look bad in the process by forcing throws ie. Wentz-like. Or even worse he'll run a lot, because he can, and get himself hurt.
He’s one tough SOB and a gamer, reminds me of Joey T. He’s not scared, that’s what I love about him, he’s the opposite of Wentz.

Howell most likely is going to have a rough day but I don't care. The kid has some potential and that's all they should want to see. Just sucks that he only has one game.
I bet he would have beaten the browns..... RON.

Start Howell
Keep Payne
Slide Cosmi over to Right Guard
Draft/Sign 2 T's/G/Back-Up C
Draft CB
Draft LB
Re-Sign Holcomb or sign another veteran LB
= Playoff team
If the floor for Sam Howell looks like his 1st game (pretty good minus 1 terrible throw in the end zone), I think we're really only a few pieces away from being a playoff team.

We have a one game sample size of Sam , let’s hold off putting him in the HoF
I bet I can find for each CW and TH one game in their careers where they played better then Sam did in his one game

Yeah one game where he was handcuffed and not asked to do a whole lot. I wish they put more on his plate and had him throw it around more.
There's no way anyone in the building looks at that performance and says that's it, he's our QB1.

I'd rather put him in the HoF, than sell the family house, farm, and dog for some fucking retread from another team. And I'm still signing a veteran QB and drafting a mid-round QB too for competition. But I think Howell would win that competition pretty easily if he gets the same number of reps.
I just don't see how you can look at that game, and not feel like Howell over Heinicke/Wentz will definitely be an improvement. Especially with another off-season under his belt.
We literally needed to win 1 more game to make the playoffs. Howell and a new OC is worth at least 1 more win in my eyes.

The positive is Howell put himself in the mix to start next season. That 60 air yard throw to Terry was beautiful…as were some of the timing throws and showing off he is a more natural runner than Heinike.
If he woulda sucked and went out and was a catastrophe…would felt more doom and gloom for the offseason. Gotta really wait on the OC coordinator choice.
I wonder if it was Turner who advised Howell wasn’t ready?

That's a pretty low bar you have to admit lol
Wentz and Heinicke were both bottom of the barrel in pretty much every QB metric this year. Wentz was ranked 31st on this list and Heinicke was 29th (https://vikingsterritory.com/2023/top_news/top-qbs-of-2022).
We have no idea off one game if Howell is better than these guys or will end up at the bottom of next year's list too.

It is a low bar. The bar is rolling on the ground lol. Would be a tough game of limbo to get underneath it.
Yeah, I can't point to any evidence that says over a full course of a season he will be definitely be a top 15-20 type QB. It's moreso just basing it off of him being a pretty damn good QB in college and me personally believing in his potential (game 18 was a part of this) to be a solid QB next year, that can continue to improve. If we had decent QB play last year, we're a playoff team. Just getting from bad to decent QB play should be enough to get to 9 or 10 wins next season.
This will be a conversation likely until after the draft. Anything could still happen at the QB spot.
