I'd rather have the league not like us for it, and have a chance to actually win games. Then continue to suck so we don't hurt some feelings outside of the team.

Concur.

Who cares? As long as Danny runs the show, we'll continue to be an absolute fucking joke, year in and year out.

We're in the proverbial position of holding a tiger by the tail. Rivera's performance has been less than satisfactory, but firing him would be a grave mistake. He may not be considered a good coach, but he's a respected individual around the league. As pathetic as this organization is, Rivera's tenure has coincided with a particularly tumultuous series of events brought on by the owner. Rivera handled it with class and dignity, and much of this while he was going through cancer treatment. Firing him now or at the end of the season would go over like a lead balloon around the league. We're not going to win with this coaching staff in place, but the fallout from his firing would be too great a price to pay. Screwed if we do, screwed if we don't.

Don't have anything to add - just wanted to +1 everybody else. You should post more.

Yeah I don't agree that there would be damaging fallout from firing Rivera. First of all, at this point there's no more damage that can be done that Danny hasn't already brought upon the organization. They need to be in the business of putting butts back in seats and the longer you let a coach hang around who fans perceive has no chance of getting the team back to winning, the more fan apathy builds up. Which leads to empty seats.

How his firing would go over in NFL circles or in the court public opinion is a much smaller concern when compared with what NFL teams actually care about: profitability. The almighty dollar trumps all in the NFL. They need a team that will win.

That's the same reason though that they'll likely hang onto Rivera through year four and then make a move. They're not going to fire him with two years left on the contract. Costs too much.

After year 4 if he hasn't shown progress, and my money says he won't, he'll be gone. As he should. Because you're in this business to win and make money. Nothing else matters.

I do believe that people .. player or coach .. get a chance to rebound, to adjust, a chance to respond to adversity.

Lets give Ron and company 4-6 more games to see if they can right some wrongs here. See if they can coach, see if they can adjust and game plan.

Next 6 games

@ DAL
V TEN
@ CHI
V GB
@ INDY
V MIN

If they come away with that 3-3 I'd be surprised. Only Chicago and Indy are 2 I'm actually confident in but both of those teams have solid defenses so its a toss up

I think 3-3 is doable. I am concerned with Dallas but not sold at all on Tennessee they are weak. Minnesota- JJ will eat up our secondary but they are beatable. GB is probably a loss but we have been playing them close.

If we beat Dallas Sunday I'd be very surprised. They are playing well and that defense is NASTY.

I agree with you that I think he'll be back. But let's say they only win like 3 games, and have a top 3 pick in the draft. If they only won like 3 games then Wentz obviously didn't work out...and they could possibly draft one of the QBs this year...do you want the same regime to start over with a new QB...or do you come in with a new coaching staff with the new QB?
