OnceWeWereKings 04-30-2022, 07:48 AM I'm scratching my head on the 2nd round pick. Maybe he was higher on their boards than what anyone thought. I would have liked s or mlb like others have said. We addressed receiver with not doctson, and qb with wentz.. other biggest needs are s and mlb. So I don't totally get why we don't bolster those positions.
I like the rb pick. A lot. It's something I was hoping to see. I don't think Gibson is the dude. The fumbles, likely, won't stop. I like him, but it's a huge liability. And while there's never a good time to turn it over, he seemingly does it at the absolute worst times. So I'm happy to get another rb, and his possible replacement. I know they are saying short yardage back, but I think he will be more if it pans out.
That 2nd rounder though. What the hell
Chico23231 04-30-2022, 07:58 AM Concerned about the middle of our D -- MLB and S are areas of real need. I rather view the picks we've made so far as nice to haves more than anything else. Sure, a great WR will help, but I would be interested to see if a healthy Curtis Samuel and 2nd year Dyami Brown is enough to supplement McLaurin when combined with a QB that can push the ball down the field -- which we simply didn't have last year. Sure, a good between the tackles RB is nice to have, although we have Gibson, JDM, and Patterson (who the coaches said could be a good short yardage back). And sure, after losing Matty I and Settle, getting another rotation piece on the DL is helpful.
But I don't see these needs as being as acute as the need for FS and MLB help where our current options are clearly holding us back. Now maybe this draft reflects a mentality of the BPA and not focusing on need. But I don't think so -- as much as I am interested to see Dotson's potential, do folks really think he was the BPA at 14 (the pick we had) or 16 (the pick we made)?
This draft feels a little aimless to me. Obviously, until guys suit up and start playing, no one really knows whether we've done well or not. But unless the folks we've drafted so far are lights out in their respective positions, I will wonder whether trying to hit on FS and MLB would have done more to help us contend than what we've done.
Agree. When we see reaches seems like we are going need and not following a board.
Jamin Davis was the choice last year…a guy who pulled off the field late last year, losing snaps to David Mayo.
skinsfaninok 04-30-2022, 10:12 AM Jaymin Davis will be better this year , he’s got to be. The issue is , we needed Secondary help and OL help (depth) You take a RB after you just resigned JDM… that’s odd to me. Maybe they view Robinson as a better overall runner than AG.

EdmundDorf 04-30-2022, 11:09 AM AG has 2 years left on his rookie deal, maybe looking for a new contract next year, to some degree I think they are planning ahead. Same with Mathis re Payne, but I think they kind of screwed up the Payne issue.

Maybe it’s also a wake up call to AG, the fumbles are a huge issue. He also doesn’t see the holes as quickly but again he was a WR… hell switch him back to WR?

vallin21 04-30-2022, 11:51 AM 1. Dotson- Good player, I felt we could’ve traded down again and still got him in the 20’s, but nonetheless a good pick.
2. Mathis- *In my opinion* was the worst pick; given that Matt I, and Settle were both Day 3 picks (5th rounders). Could’ve addressed DL depth today. MLB, and FS were bigger needs and Dean, Muma, and Brisker were all available at 47.
3. Robinson- I like the pick. Gibson has a fumbling problem; and has been inconsistent.

Pretty much agree with this.
A 2nd round pick should be a solid starter if not from day 1 - and we picked up a rotational DT who might be a starter if they are able to trade Payne - which everybody knows we'll be trying to trade now so we don't lose him on the cheap next year.
Meanwhile we still have an absolute massive hole at MLB which is a premium defensive position because it's the defensive playcaller. And you can't expect a 4th round or later pick to come in from day 1 and be your defensive playcaller.
I don't mind the Robinson or Dotson picks, but Mathis is questionable.

That's exactly how I feel
skinsfan69 04-30-2022, 12:52 PM Not a real big fan of the Robinson pick. Not that he isn't a good player cause he is. But I'm just not a fan of slow, road grading 3 yards and a cloud of dust type of backs. It's outdated. With the way the game is now you need backs, all of the backs should have pass catching skills and route running ability. They should be able to be split out and catch passes. The exception is Derek Henry, but give me Cam Akers, Edwards Helaire, Dalvin Cook, McCaffrey types.
I felt we were fine at RB and if you really needed a bruiser then get one in the 6th or 7th round or as a undrafted FA. Or sign a free agent on the cheap like you did w/ Barber. Very easy position to fill.
But if Robinson turns out to be Henry then forget everything I said.. lol.

Rivera still thinks it's 1985.
