Patriots have problems too!

Just heard on PTI that Seymore is sitting out of minicamp because he wants a new contract.

Seymour, 25, who has two years remaining on the deal he signed as a rookie in 2001, is one of the league's great bargains. He is slated to make $2.8 million this coming season and $1.2 million (plus escalators) in 2006.
This guy is a monster DL, truely one of the best young DL's in the game right now. Seymore getting paid $1.2 next year (2006)is a crime. DL in particular suffer career ending injuries all the time, very dangerous position.
If the Patriots were smart, they should extend his contract before 2006. It would give Seymore incentive to stay in NE. This is why I hate the salary cap, this guys deserves to make more.

that is not surprising, we all know how cheap the pats are. i hate that team with a passion so when they are problems with their player i tend to laugh. he really does deserve more than that but sometimes you have to wait your turn like reed is doing in b-more.

Right. But the Pats have leverage in the fact they ARE SUPER BOWL CHAMPS. I'd just laugh and be like, "Enjoy your season." One person won't make or break the Pats.

Tom Brady would...if they last him with a season ending injury. They would not be a "sure thing" SB team. they would still be good, but not great.
Also if they lost Seymore, that would be a big blow as well. They do not have another DL of his caliber.

True. QBs ARE the core of the team. Seymour's great, but I think they'd be just fine.

No.
Seean Taylor has not won 3 SB's and been a multiple probowl player like Seymore. Seymore at 25 has proven it on the field that he is one (if not THE top) DL in the NFL.
Taylor has shown flashes of great potential, but that is it. He does NOT deserve a new contract.
However, I do think the press and some fans are demonizing Taylor. Taylor is proving to be an immature/punk multi-millionare. He needs to leave that Allen Iverson (BS) hood boy crap behind him and grow up or he could lose it all. I do think ST can turn it around.
Sean Taylor however has not done anything so bad as to deserve throwing him under the bus.
I would be fine with ST coming to training camp, playing in every game, playing at a probowl level and going home to Florida. I do not care if he does not come here during the offseason to sit in a circle, hold hands with the other players and sing kumbaya. That shit is overated. Just play well, win and stay out of trouble. I do not care if he goes to church or kisses Joe Gibbs SB rings.

I dont think it's good practice to try to outmaneuver that organization fiscally. And on the contrary, I prefer the cheap business operating model, over the Dan Snyder patented plan.

Actually, I thought I heard that Ed Reed was going to hold out because he wants a new contract?

Regardless, I'm generally not a fan of holding out to get a new contract (I'd rather see players do it like Hines Ward......who hasn't missed a day of workouts or camp and lets his agent worry about the contract negotiations). That said, I think the Patriots are fools if they don't sign Seymour to a better long term deal. He's definitely proven that he's worth the $$$ (even though I'd prefer he go about it a different way).
