SFREDSKIN 09-03-2021, 06:57 PM I love how the author says Moreland has a "ball-hawking knack". What? So he's not really a ball hawk, but he has the knack for being one... OK...
BTW, he had one interception in 30 games. He must have had a bunch of "almost interceptions" though.
Anyway, I like Moreland, he is a great story and seems like a good dude. While I was surprised with the release, I wasn't blown away. I was equally surprised that they kept 4 tight ends, only 4 linebackers, and released AGG.
A year ago, we were looking at:
Kendall Fuller
Ronald Darby
Jimmy Moreland
Danny Johnson
Fabian Moreau
Greg Stroman
Now we have:
Kendall Fuller
William Jackson III
Benjamin St-Juste
Torry McTyer
Darryl Roberts
Troy Apke
Honestly, the secondary looks to be much improved (on paper) in my opinion. If you replace one of the six CBs currently on the roster with Moreland, I'm not sure that he makes the secondary any better.
All I know is Moreland made some big plays in different games last year, keeping Apke over him was stupid even if Apke is good on ST.
Chief X_Phackter 09-03-2021, 07:03 PM When you are talking about your 4th, 5th, and 6th CBs, the deciding factor is almost always Special Teams. A lot of people just don't like Apke, but obviously the coaches do.

We kept Moreland too. He's on our injured reserve - put there post cut period so he is eligible to return after 3 weeks.

Read the link I posted above, he’ll be playing elsewhere.
CRedskinsRule 09-03-2021, 07:38 PM Read the link I posted above, he’ll be playing elsewhere. I posted an article that said he was waived with an injury designation, once he cleared waivers he fell back onto our team as an IR'd player. Seems like no real clarification is out there.

CRedskinsRule 09-03-2021, 07:50 PM Here is a definition of waived - injured from https://www.nj.com/giants/2016/09/what_does_it_mean_when_an_nfl_player_is_waivedinju .html
Vested veterans can be put directly on injured reserve without being exposed to waivers. This is what the Giants did with fifth-year offensive lineman Byron Stingily, who was placed on injured reserve on Tuesday with a concussion.
*Up until*the first cut-down day, which was Tuesday, injured non-vested players must be placed on waivers through the waived/injured designation before being placed on injured reserve. This prevents teams from stashing young players on injured reserve. Once a waived/injured player clears waivers, he reverts to the team's IR.

Ben standing wrote this, makes it sound like he'll be playing elsewhere. I would love it if it's us:
@BenStandig
Regarding CB Jimmy Moreland and the waived/injury designation. He suffered a knee bruise, per source. Minor injury. Should be ready for Week 1. Which team, that's tbd.

Interesting, so yeah, if they wanted to put him on IR, they didn't need to waive him... so I don't know exactly how reliable that IR info is...
CRedskinsRule 09-03-2021, 11:12 PM NFL.com transactions has Moreland going to our IR on 9/1

CRedskinsRule 09-07-2021, 12:48 AM This looks like the definitive resolution on Jimmy Moreland:
https://www.yardbarker.com/general_sports/articles/jimmy_moreland_and_washington_agree_to_injury_sett lement/s1_16457_35800337
Moreland was initially waived on Aug. 31 during final roster cuts with an injury designation due to a knee bruise. The injury is considered minor and he was expected to be ready for Week 1. He cleared waivers reverting back to Washington with the option of him going on injury reserve or agreeing to an injury settlement.
Now, Moreland will be subjected to waivers. If he goes unclaimed by 4:00 PM ET Tuesday, he becomes a free agent and is free to sign with any other team in the NFL.
If he doesn’t land elsewhere, Washington could re-sign him. However, they would have to wait an additional three weeks after Week 1 to bring him back. Although those odds seem low.
