sdskinsfan2001 04-28-2021, 11:44 AM We need a true center fielder FS. Moehrig is not that. He just adds to logjam at SS or creates more coverage issues.
I favor BPA. Irrespective of position.
If it is close, I go the high five leverage positions in order: QB,LT,DE,CB,WR. Again LT above DE because he protects QB, CB above WR because shutdown corners much harder to find than WR. We have 2 stud DEs, so could obviously pass on that, but we could easily use another 3rd corner or a true #1 WR if someone falls. Alas, I think RR and staff are thinking filling need.
Best outcome is still top-5 QB falling to 19. Doubt it.
Second best outcome is a LT, dominant pass blocker care less about run blocking, falls.
Third best outcome if first two don't happen trade down and get 2nd tier LT or QB.
Fourth best outcome is CB or WR falls to us at 19.
We are DYING for a thumper in middle, at LB, but you can get that guy with 2nd 3rd round pick. I would not be surprised to see us reach at LB.
You are literally the only person I've seen anywhere that says he can't play deep safety. What are you basing this off of?
Chief X_Phackter 04-28-2021, 11:47 AM "Moehrig put up big numbers in his last two seasons as a starter and was a two-time First-Team All-Big 12 selection. He was named to seven All-American teams as well. In the past two seasons he took part in nine takeaways which tied for second in the FBS. This past season his 11 passes defended trailed only teammate Tre'Vius Hodges-Tomlinson (13) in the Big 12. He placed third on the Horned Frogs with 47 tackles, including 2.0 for loss."
"Very talented height-weight-speed prospect with the range and ball skills to become an impact defender at the next level. Moehrig possesses the overall talent to play in a variety of coverages, including over the slot against big targets, but his talent might be best served as a high safety where his instincts and anticipation lead him to the football. He's a talented ball tracker with soft hands and does a very good job of maintaining balance and positioning to make a play..."
"Trevon Moehrig is a free safety that has satisfied multiple roles for the Horned Frogs. A consistent and urgent single-high player, he’s a free-flowing mover that’s at his best when able to patrol the middle of the field. With seven career interceptions, he’s proven to not only be a constant ball disruptor, but he’s a safety that can change the momentum of games by getting the ball back to his team...Ideal Role: Starting free safety."
"Moehrig has adequate size, but excellent versatility and instincts. He can play in the deep post or cover in the slot. He is a smooth, fluid mover in man coverage underneath. He also possesses ideal anticipation and range from the back end. He has the ability to consistently match patterns and position himself for plays on the ball... He will provide his defensive coordinator with options, which is exactly what's desired in 2021."

Moehrig is a FS, with coverage skills. His game is similar to Earl Thomas, not saying he’s him, but he’s definitely not a SS.
At 19, One possibly two top players will fall and be available. We’ll see

We have a true #1 WR, likewise your dismissing Scherff. Some of your posts are interesting but you lose a ton of credibility when you blatantly disregard consensus (NFL GM consensus not home fan angst consensus) opinions of talent. Not asking for a lengthy diatribe of how you see it, just giving you another fan's opinion on how I read your treatises.

Chief X_Phackter 04-28-2021, 12:22 PM Equally as absurd as the notion that Trevon Moehrig is not a Free Safety.

TREVON MOEHRIG
S, TCU HORNED FROGS
TCU S Trevon Moehrig could be in play for Washington with the 19th overall pick if the Football Team stays put, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler and Dan Graziano.
Washington may look into moving up in the draft order, as the team would like to address its need at the quarterback position. While the Football Team did engage in trade conversations regarding QB Matthew Stafford and OT Orlando Brown Jr., they ultimately pulled out. GM Martin Mayhew spent time in Fargo with North Dakota State QB Trey Lance, so it's possible that Washington will look to move up if they're set on him as their quarterback of the future. But if Washington stays put Moehrig, who they're believed to be quite high on, could be the choice. The former TCU standout is expected to be the first safety off the board.

It cements my first block as completely justified. I only see the quoted parts of his rants. Might be thee single most ridiculous football related post ive seen on here in 10 years. And that is saying a whole lot.
