Fitz had the 2nd fastest average time to release in the NFL next year, the avg time between the snap and his release of the ball was 2.37 seconds, 2nd best of all passers with 50 or more dropbacks.

Not a bad fit for an offense that wants to do its damage via YAC.

He also had a 92.7 grade from PFF on throws 20 yards downfield or more.

He's not a starter because he's paid like one, he's a starter because he's much better than people realize, and better than Heinicke.

Fire that fucking pigskin. Can't wait for the magic show.

Good draft and a couple more depth to solid FA signings and we have a legit chance at double digit wins. C'mon April 29th!!

It's not really backup money. It's more like low-end starter money. He'll bank more than 13 other projected starters next year. According to Spotrac, Taysom Hill is the only non-starting QB (maybe) that is to make more than Fitz in 2021.

He is a bridge QB, but he's the starter.

When you take QB's still on rookie contracts out of that list you see he drops down to 2nd or 3rd lowest "starter" with only Cam Newton a clear starter below him. In addition, Marcus Mariotta is right below him and a clear backup at 8.8M, Nick Foles and Andy Dalton are both on the bears at 8 to 10 M one will be a starter, neither is the "clear" starter

The rest of the starters that are paid less than him are on rookie contracts, and I am positive if they came up for renewal they would be paid more than 20M if they have shown they are unquestioned starters:

QBs at 10M or less this year that are guaranteed starters (R = Rookie contract):

Baker Mayfield (R) (his backup Case Keenum is paid 6M)
Kyler Murray (R)
Josh Allen(R)
Daniel Jones(R)
Joe Burrow(R)
Tua Tag (R)
Justin Herbert(R)
Lamar Jackson(R)
Jalen Hurts (R)
Gardner Minshew(R)
Sam Darnold(R)
Denver QB (R) none are more than 2.5M don't know what they are doing
Cam Newton (5M) - maybe the only non-Rookie starter under 10M and that is because Brady left BB unhinged.

If either the rookie we draft or TH show they can be a multi-year starter, then Fitz will be a well paid backup. If they don't then he is an extremely cheap bridge qb.

Either way - I am excited about both Fitz and TH so between them and whatever rookie they sign I think we have the groundwork laid to finally get a successful QB in Washington

Ultimately, Fitz will either be one of the lowest paid non-rookie starters, or one of the highest paid veteran backups.

And for the WFT, he brings good options to the hardest position for this team to fill.

Yep, that's why I said "low-end starter money". True, a lot of those guys are on rookie contracts, but I wasn't separating who was on their first, second, third, etc. contract; just where his 2021 salary ranks among the projected 2021 starters. The overwhelming majority of backups in the league make less than half what he is making.

Mariota took a pay cut to 3.5 Mil.

Either way, Fitz didn't come here to be a backup, and barring an injury he will be the starter. He has stated that he has no desire to watch football anymore, and if he isn't playing it's time to hang it up.

There is a HUGE difference between 1st and 2nd contract money. We all know that. He may have come because he believes he has the best shot to start here, but since he is on a one year contract RR would be doing a disservice to the franchise NOT to make the job available to the best player. That most likely will be Fitz.

Not most likely, barring injury Fitz will absolutely be the starter. WFT has no other legit options at starting QB.

Totally agree. It was a fun story last year but the Heinicke hype is just that, hype. Otherwise Ron wouldn't have tried trading for Stafford and inquired about several other guys. There's not going to be a legitimate QB competition, nor should there be.

There absolutely should be a competition. Yes Heinecke was a one off, but Fitz is on a 1 year deal and is 38. They should bring in a late round rookie, and let them compete mainly so we know what we have in 2022.

Also, of course you go for Stafford over Heinicke that is a no brainer. But Fitz isnt Stafford, he is on his 9th team for a reason. If he wins the starting job that is fine and in 2022 we are back to the whole qb drawing board.

I think some of this discussion assumes I or others are arguing for Heinicke. I am not. I am saying the goal of the coaching staff should be to find a long term solution at the qb, and you do that through competition. Until we have a qb we can seriously count on for 3-4 years minimum there should be competition every year.
