Solid signing. An upgrade over Darby

Quite possibly the best CB on the market this offseason.

Solid Corner who is more a #1 than Fuller. We have 2 good tackling, physical corners...plus Moreland who is a good tackler especially round los in the slot.

Sound pick up

Hole created, hole filled. Besides missing his rookie year, he has been very durable. Always good to see.

Not too familiar with him. I remembered him from Houston after looking him up.

He's got good size.

Jackson is our CB1 for sure. Had a dominant 2017 where he had a 90 overall grade. He’s been consistent every year

B grade. First, not signing Darby was the right choice. I wouldn't have paid him $8M a year, much less $10M+. He is still a massive injury risk and he got toasted WAYYYYYYYYY too much last year against better teams. Remember all those receivers sprinting open through our secondary like it was a combine passing drill? Yes, LB and safety part of problem, but so was CB. FO got it right not bidding high for Darby. That being said, his departure leaves a gaping hole at CB, and honestly we could draft one first three rounds after this signing in a deep CB draft and still not be drowning in talent at position. Fuller is best as a slot CB. Hopefully we draft a 3rd starting caliber CB in draft and let Fuller play slot. Also, given that we now have $24M spent at CB, we really can't afford any more big signings so need to look to draft for one more solid CB.

I have always preferred true cover corners to press corners, ala Darrell Green. If you're going to rely on slower press corners, you need an Earl Thomas at FS (FS is still only position on roster we have NOTHING), and even then, such players often get beat in critical man situations (see Richard Sherman). Jackson was one of better CBs in FA, in what was admittedly an uninspiring CB class. He is a pure man cover corner with decent size and good speed. Most knowledgeable observers would say he is one of top-10 man cover corners in NFL. He is a guy you can put on #1 receivers. He probably signed here for short deal because teams not paying huge money in FA this year as much, especially given deep draft at CB, and figures he'll put up mind blowing stats behind our DL opposite Fuller and get one more big payday at 30 or 31. He is very slight of build as man corners often are, is not a thumper when tackling, is not durable, nor is he truly elite (though our DL should make him look much better), and price paid is fair. Not signing him to longer deal when he will be 30 and because of injury risk is smart. He is a pure cover guy who can stay with receivers step for step and has good instincts when ball in air. Some see Jackson as one of better CBs in FA and call this a great deal because we got one of better CBs available, but it is just a good deal because not many good CBs were/are available in FA. Top corners make $20M or so, and Jackson is now one of top-ten paid corners in NFL approximate, on lower end. This was a fair deal, neither an egregious overpay, nor a bargain. I like signing a better pure man corner for a few million a year more rather than signing a lesser player cheaper. We needed a true #1 CB and signed one. We now have 2 CBs making top-20 money at the position, they'd better perform like it. Better teams fill high-leverage positions with drafted players, you can't sign high-priced FAs at CB,LT,QB,WR,DE, etc. As of now, we have a drafted WR and DE, and big-money FAs at QB and CB. Hopefully we draft a CB, LT, etc. in draft. Overall, we paid a corner which is usually ranked top 15-25 in CBs in NFL, top-10 money at the position. That's free agency, you always overpay for better players, but we couldn't leave gaping hole at CB1. A solid B signing.

One thing about the Oline...I’m always down to give it attention. But center to right tackle is locked down in stone. Solid there.

The front office did well in attaining both Lucas and Schweitzer in Free agency who contributed on the left side and did better than expected. Add in Ismel and Charles in draft, young prospects who got some experience. Christian is a swing tackle...

We aren’t in bad shape, but obtaining another Tackle in the draft wouldn’t be a bad thing...but I’m not worried with Schreff locked in.

Christian is a grocery bagger. Charles is hopefully a swing tackle. Yes, obtaining a true franchise LT would be sensible. Lucas is great value, but not elite, you would like an elite player at LT guarding blindside. Moses is rolling up on 30. . .
