Eh who cares, it was worth the gamble in the 4th

Not when we had drafted a RB in the 2d already.

Not when we had drafted a RB in the 2d already.

You don't draft solely based on need, you draft based on who you think has the highest chance of succeeding as a long term quality player in the NFL.

Given the percentages of third day draft picks that actually pan out I don't have a problem with the selection. If his injuries had healed properly he had the talent to succeed.

WFT waives Bryce Love

Exhibit A for going pro early. If he had left after his record setting junior year, no telling what his football future would be like.

I feel for the kid. Uber talented, derailed by injury. It totally sucks.

But he was studying to be a doctor. That path is obviously still open for him. Which is not a bad "second life choice" to have available.

Best of luck to the kid.

Watched an interview with Julie D. He sounds like a guy who will put the work in (physical and studying) and won't let himself fail.

I think he's going to work out. There will be a learning curve but I think he'll get it. Since we have Thomas as the starter and won't rely on him picking it up immediately to be the starter, we can have some more patience with him.

I'm excited to see him on the field.

He's also very humble and grounded. Doesn't care about a house for himself, just wants to take care of his parents and be a role model for Chilean kids who have never had a pro athlete to look up to (in football or basketball).

Check out that interview.

No one can foresee if he's going to work out. Let's assume he puts in 1 million percent effort, he doesn't he's toast for sure, but assume. Even then he could bust. LOTS of great athletes give it their all and fail in NFL, it takes way more than just talent. Maybe he can learn the position, maybe he can't. No one knows right now.

In terms of being grounded, have you ever heard anyone give an interview like that and say they want to spend it all on hookers and blow? That they just want to be in the NFL to make some quick easy money, get fame, and laid a lot? Saying all the right things in interview doesn't mean much, only an imbecile doesn't play the PR game. I'm not saying the guy is grounded, I'm not saying he isn't, I'm just saying you don't make that determination based on public interviews in which only the rankest dumbass doesn't give the "right" answers.

The signing is a sensible risk/reward proposition because we have significant reward potential with very minimal risk. I hope the guy can learn the position and sticks as the #3 TE this year. Sometimes blocking is much, much more difficult to learn than catching for TEs, his progression should be interesting.

Cooley's comments on this were great, years ago, Gibbs telling him to block better, he's like, the guy in front of me outweighs me by 40 pounds, is way stronger than me, and he's lightning fast, WTF do you want me to do exactly? I'm not doing comments justice, but it was funny and spot on. Vintage Cooley.

Gibson already took over the show so that doesn't matter, although it sucks that we wasted a 4th round pick.

Our current FO seems much less inclined to take injury risks, except really late rounds.

Not always. For every Bryce, there's some kid who went pro early, got drafted 6th round or is now bagging groceries, and might have been drafted much higher and been set for life on rookie deal. There are obviously cases for higher-end prospects where going pro early makes sense, but lots of cases where it is horrible decision. Injury can ultimately strike anyone. You feel bad for the guy, but not everyone is cut out for the NFL, and was right move for the team. Like you said, best of luck to him.

Maybe I missed this posted, but Keim has stated the Skins do have interest in LT Villanueva from the Steelers and could be more interest post draft if he don’t take a tackle high in the draft.

I would be in favor of this move if we don’t come away with one in the draft

Villenueva is visiting with the Ravens. If we want him, we better move quick.

I think he'd be an excellent signing.

Oh yeah, totally agree ... but in his case, he would have been drafted higher than where we took him (prolly second round at worst). And who knows if he ever gets injured.

His "problem" was his pursuit of his education, and dream of med school. You don't go pro early when that is also important to you.

He's gonna be just fine.

KJ Wright ... he wanted a 2 yr deal w the Boys and they wanted 1 yr .. they couldnt agree, cant find anything on money.

If we could get him for 2 yrs/14/7 guar .. I think he could be the rug to tie the whole thing together. A leader, decent at coverage and LOS, winner .. hopefully he doesnt turn into a DJ Swearinger where it just to much vocal
