Alex Smith Cut (update: retired)AnonEmouse 03-09-2021, 12:53 PM Ah, never saw that (limited coverage over here). skinsfaninok 04-19-2021, 12:45 PM Kudos to Smith on a good career, he defied the odds.. This is the best decision for him MTK 04-19-2021, 12:46 PM All time great comeback story skinsfaninok 04-19-2021, 12:47 PM He left a little bitter but I imagine now he sees why he was cut.. Nobody was taking that chance AnonEmouse 04-19-2021, 01:12 PM While this was inevitable, I think he was holding out hope of playing again. I just don't think he got the offers that would have made it worthwhile. Moving his family across the country for probably a 1 year deal and already getting paid by WFT anyway probably made little sense in the cold light of day. For me he's the kind of guy the NFL wants so I hope he takes up coaching. But I could equally see him go into politics. Who wouldn't vote for him if he has a good platform? Happy retirement AS. :) MTK 04-19-2021, 01:22 PM He left a little bitter but I imagine now he sees why he was cut.. Nobody was taking that chance If you're talking about the GQ article I never got the impression he was bitter, he even clarified that and said he had no animosity towards the team (https://www.nbcsports.com/washington/football-team/sources-clarify-alex-smiths-gq-comments-no-animosity-toward-organization). Reactions to that article got things a little twisted I think. EdmundDorf 04-19-2021, 01:23 PM He left a little bitter but I imagine now he sees why he was cut.. Nobody was taking that chance Would be nice and mend some fences if he would have said that though. Monkeydad 04-19-2021, 01:28 PM Link to confirm since I didn't see one. https://twitter.com/NFL/status/1384171837156827138 It was the right decision. I was hoping he's stick on as the backup one more year but the team does need to consider its future. Jacksonville was his only hope and Coach Meyer said he has serious concerns about Alex's medical status, so a playoff run and hanging it up after the greatest comeback story every...that's a fine way to go out. My daughter can still wear her Smith jersey with pride and won't have to see him on another team. Thanks for the memories and inspiration, Alex. We're a lucky fanbase to have gone through this story with you. CRedskinsRule 04-19-2021, 01:32 PM Kudos to Smith on a good career, he defied the odds.. This is the best decision for him +1 :woot: Pervis_Griffith 04-19-2021, 01:36 PM I wonder what he's going to do now. Not that he has to do anything. I'd chill. But given his track record, I don't see him sitting still for very long. I wonder if he'll try to stay close to the game -- coaching, front office, or broadcasting .... Anyway -- a good dude. He represented us well. Glad he wore the burgundy and gold. |
