I first heard about this Chad Wheeler story earlier because Nate Burleson spoke on it (https://www.si.com/extra-mustard/2021/01/27/nate-burleson-mentions-chad-wheeler-arrest-on-nfl-network-show?fbclid=IwAR2Dubix7J2Cc5pz1FWsB-fPBEUP4I3MTghS3XfrmesgLaqa4n6eCq0HotU) despite not getting clearance to do so from NFLN.
I had no idea how bad it was until I saw the picture and heard the story from the victim. This shit is crazy. Good for Burleson for speaking up along with every (https://twitter.com/EmmanuelAcho/status/1354458405218340866?s=20) other (https://twitter.com/joethomas73/status/1354492144153550851) NFL (https://twitter.com/_willcompton/status/1354574982077165569) player (https://twitter.com/demario__davis/status/1354504321774321673?s=20) I've seen addressing the subject on Twitter.
"What was most terrifying was how cold he was... He thought I was dead on my bed and continued to Eat dinner. When I ran into the bathroom, he said 'wow you're still alive' while sipping on a smoothie..."
Jesus fuck. Throw the book at him.

If he's healthy then yes TTB. But if the story is true that he had a manic episode, then he needs time in a mental health facility. The way this reads indicates a very disturbed individual.
Roid rage? Object lesson to others to be careful what they put in their bodies in the pursuit of success.
Some kind of schizophrenia? Locking him up in jail isn't the solution.

No excuses.
I don't care if it's mental illness or drug-induced, he tried to kill her by beating her. There's no rehabbing that.
I'd be fine if he fried, but NO WAY should he be allowed around other humans anymore. Regardless of the reason, he's a danger to anyone around him both by his size and his actions.
Some crimes like murder, rape, pedophilia/child molesting...there's no rehab once you cross that moral line. Just remove them from society, permanently is fine.

HT/WT: 6' 7" / 318 lbs.
His career is over, as Wheeler announced on his Twitter that he's leaving football following his very public arrest after he decided to beat his girlfriend to a pulp. The 27-year-old essentially tried to kill his girlfriend (now ex) over the weekend, sending her to the hospital with a bloody and swollen face, among other injuries. Alleah, the victim, claimed Wheeler "thought I was dead on my bed and continued to eat dinner" before she got up and went to the bathroom when Wheeler replied, "Wow, you're still alive." This man needs help.

And their backup QB as their QB coach!
https://www.rotoworld.com/football/nfl/player/10682/josh-mccown
NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports the Texans are "targeting" Josh McCown and Lovie Smith as assistants.
The Texans were shredded for giving McCown a head-coaching interview over more qualified candidates, but all signs point to the former quarterback as being a future NFL coach. Being hired as a QBs coach or passing-game coordinator would be a reasonable start. Smith would bring a lot of experience to first-time head coach David Culley, and he's available after being fired by Illinois last December. The Texans have their offensive coordinator in Tim Kelly.
Plus Watson's trade request is OFFICIAL now.
https://www.rotoworld.com/football/nfl/player/8073/deshaun-watson
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Deshaun Watson has requested to be traded from the Texans.
It's been long reported that Watson wants out of Houston, but this is the first time his request has been considered "official." Schefter adds that Watson actually hasn’t spoken to new Texans general manager Nick Caserio nor executive Jack Easterby since the former's decision has already been made. With a no-trade clause baked into his deal, the 25-year-old will ultimately choose his own suitor on the market. One after another, Houston's dumbfounding decisions and cronyism in the front office transparently highlight an organization that has no direction or intention of winning in either the near future or long-term, resulting in this decision. Whomever lands Watson will merely take on a team-friendly $10.54 million cap hit in 2021 and have its franchise cornerstone locked up under center through the 2025 season.

Yeah I understand where you're coming from as an advocate of prison reform too. I think for most serious non-violent offenders an emphasis should be placed on rehab to lower the recidivism rate too.
But this wasn't just domestic violence, this was attempted murder. I don't have any sympathy for that, even if it was man on man I really don't have a problem locking the violent ones up. If you want to rehab him after he serves time that's fine, but I have a hard time thinking the punishment for attempted murder should be a mental health facility.
