WFT Quarterback Thread - Post SEASON 2021

The problem I have with this line of thinking is one play could change the destiny of the franchise for the next several seasons. One play and Watson could have his leg broken in such a manner that his life would be at risk. Then what?

"Well, the franchise qb we traded for might never play again and we're out several of our high draft picks for the next couple years, but at least we can fantasize about what could've been"

I've always been about building your roster the slow draft way. If you trust your talent evaluators and they have a good working relationship with the coaching staff you can fill any position on the team, and it doesn't have to be with a first rounder either. You could build an entire team out of 3-7 late round draft picks who have become elite despite the odds.

It's why I'm not a big fan of Ron's "get wins quick" play. We have a solid foundation but we're not 1 solid qb away from contention.

That could happen to anyone at any time. Chase Young could break his leg and never play again just walking down the stairs. At the end of the day to me, if we get Watson our SB window opens up. Thats the point. One SB win would make up for the last 30 years. As those have said our division is bad, there is an opportunity for us to grab a hold of it by acquiring Watso:

Eagles: coaching issues and QB controversy
Giants: Saquan coming off ACL surgery, Daniel Jones cant beat anyone but us, no real recieving weapons
Cowboys: Dak coming off injury, having to potentially pay Dak 40 million a year, and their defense and coaching is trash

The opportunity is there. Everyone agrees that with Stafford at the helm this year we would have won 10 games, no way you can convince me that Watson wouldnt have gotten us to potentially 12 wins

Every move, FA or otherwise, has an element of risk/reward. That would suck though. But our next three years of 1st round picks could all tear their ACLs too. Can’t play scared. You play to win.

WFT has to make an offer to Houston. Evaluate the risk reward. Do due diligence. But in the end offer a legit number. If it sticks we walk into a weak division with a tremendous advantage and an opportunity to erase 20 years of mismanagement. If they don't accept it then you go to the next option.

Here is an interesting article on Goff. Don't know if the link works but it basically says Detroit needs to trade Goff now that his contract lost the dead cap to LA. Would you give Detroit anything straight up for Goff?

Drafted QB: 2.3M cap hit maximum for 4 years.

Could mean - still looking for your QB in 4 years too.

The draft is a 50/50 hit and miss. Look at Haskins, Mariota, Gabbert , etc.

That’s why I think drafting 2 QBs was a great move with Shanny did that. It also worked out for us in the long run. Kirk had really good seasons in Washington.

When has a 25 year old in their prime top 5 QB become available in the past?

Especially with all of our major contributiors on their rookie deals? If I am WFT I am on the phone with Houston right now and I'm not hanging up until we get a deal done. They want two 1sts? Fine, they want to add two 2nds as well. Ok. You want Landon Collins and someone from the DL not named Young or Sweat. Gas up the Washington Football plane.

problem is Casserio isn't trading him so not sure why watson is being discussed. watson will put his bruised ego aside and play for houston or play for no one.

For the people who told me I was crazy to think that Stafford might go for 3 firsts: f—- off. He went for 2 firsts, a third and a player. I was a LOT closer than those telling me to “put down the pipe”. Lol.

The pressure to get a franchise QB is HUGE NOW. This SB is proof that having a great QB is the primary ingredient to getting high into the playoffs. It is unfortunate that all the QB the WFT has tried to acquire in the last 20 years have been tainted by Dan Snyder’s personnel decisions. Snyder made very poor draft decisions every year, even though he failed again and again and again. Haskins was the last failed QB draft pick by Snyder.

Watson is going to go for AT LEAST FOUR First round draft picks. Probably more. Anyone want to tell me to “put down my pipe?” We have no chance to get Watson, unless Rivera completely loses his mind and makes an insane offer.

At this point, I do NOT think there are ANY QB FA that are worth draft picks. My only idea, is if Miami gets Watson, to go for Tua.
Once again, I got told by someone - “put down the pipe” regarding my Tua idea. It’s a long-shot but Miami has some very good draft picks to give up this year for Watson. They have as good a chance as anyone.

At this point, the WFT has TWO reasonable choices, if they don’t go for a FA QB:

1. Trade up to go for one of the TOP 3 QB draft picks. The RG3 draft pick at #2 cost them 3 first picks. He had a great first season, got hurt, then never was productive again. That high cost was to move up 4 spots in the draft. What’s it going to take to move from #19 to one of the top three QB? Who knows this crazy off-season.

2. Do a great job of researching the draft pick QB AFTER the top three Qb picks. Find a winner in the fourth or fifth QB pick. This has as good a chance as any other plan. You draft this QB and re-sign Heinicke and let them battle it out. That’s the best plan and no, I’m NOT sucking on a pipe.
