We have long ways to go between now and April 29th. Depending on how it plays out, including the draft, we might not have our answer until the end of April.

How RR and his hand picked staff solves the qb issue will show us what kind of front office they will be.

Are they willing to go all in for a known qb

Do they rely on their college scouts and find a year one starter

Do they say that no solution out there is worth the cost of the solution and build around what they have/can get without major trades.

Who knows what will be the answer, I simply hope they make the decision based on informed football knowledge and not outside (fan or dan) pressures

I think much like last year when they took a run at Cooper, they will try to take a big run at a veteran QB.

Gotta say though after looking at the Tampa game again and hearing guys like Cooley break him down, Heinicke is an intriguing fall back option. Even though we only saw 5 quarters of him this year, there's a lot of like there. He can beat out Allen if there's an open QB competition.

It's funny, I'm hesitant to count on Heinicke because of his size and durability. But if he was any bigger, he wouldn't have been available for us when we got him. He is still the starter imo until we add someone else. He is better than Allen (assuming we re-sign him).

I'd love Heinicke to prove all the doubters wrong and win the starting job (assuming we don't bring in an A lister i.e. Stafford). I just can't ignore playing 3 stretches, getting injured 3 times. You can't put your eggs in that one basket, and even then if he proves good enough, you can't rely on him to stay healthy at this stage. We have to at least draft a competitive QB and/or a comparable FA. All assuming Smith retires/gets cut.

Yep.. This isn't a good year for WFT to look for QB due to limited QB options in free agency and too many teams need a new QB. I still believe there's a good chance we will roll with Allen/Heinicke/rookie QB.

The options for QB in free agency this year are much better and more plentiful than next year. They are going to have to pull the trigger on a FA QB or make a trade this year. Can't roll with what they have and expect to compete again in 2021.

The idea of working out a trade for Stafford is growing on me - especially if they can work out a new deal for 4-5 years.

With our cap room, I wonder if we'll be the front runner for Dak if he becomes available via free agency. I know he'll be expensive, but it'd be nice to be able to use our draft capital to add to the offense.

He needs to hit the gym big time

CLAYTON: Shit, Lattimer's an animal all of a sudden. Benchin' 450. He's gotta be on somethin'.
HUMES: What, steroids? Why do you always think my guys are juicin'?
CLAYTON: I don't know... he's on the punt team for three years, then gains 35 pounds of rip in one summer and an attitude to go with it.
---Coach Winters, who's heard all this, comes by---
WINTERS: We're not doctors, gentlemen. The NCAA has testing programs for this. Let's let them worry about it. Besides, it's not that hard to put on 35 pounds in a summer, if you really hit the gym.
---Winters walks on into his office. Clayton nods, realizing this subject is now closed. ---

I don't think Heinicke's size is the concern, it's more about his playing style. He needs to protect himself better.
