"8 teams have called the Jets in the past few days regarding Darnold and WFT is one"
No surprise there

Heinicke starts and stays healthy. And the legend is born.
I must be missing something with TH. He only played in 1 game for WFT. I just done see him suddenly becoming a viable NFL starter. There's a reason he was out of the league for two years.

God, I hope this is no more than due diligence and smoke screening. I have never understood the desire for a "known commodity" when that commodity is known to be absolutely terrible. I'd much rather go with the unseasoned guy with upside than a guy we know for certain will continue to fail.

Because if the price is too high for the latter guy you might have to settle for scraps.
Tannehill was looked at as average in Miami because Gase is a terrible coach, Tennessee picked him up for scraps and look at him now. If a coach likes the talent and thinks a guy just needs some coaching up he will look into acquiring him.
If you're saying you disagree with Ron's evaluation of Darnold you are basically saying you disagree with Ron's talent evaluation skills at qb.

At least 8 NFL front offices disagree with you, so he is not "Known" to be terrible, he is obviously "known" to have a high upside which is worth a 3rd or maybe a 2nd round pick to some.
[Edit]
On the other hand Gase is "known" to be one of the most awful coaches in the history of the league and a documented QB killer.

While a lot of valid arguments can be made on both sides of the ability of Darnold as a QB...the argument I fear the most is the one internally about relinquishing a first round pick for Darnold. If they like him enough, I think it’s definitely on the table which would be a terrible mistake.

I would be at ease with them using a second if they thought he was worth it, but a first is too steep a price unless their second rounder came back along with him

Nobody is that stupid. If any team was willing to trade a first, or even a second, for Darnold, he would already be a former Jet. It is very hard to find any positives about Darnold, unless you love interceptions and fumbles. 39 INTs and 20 fumbles in 38 games. Holy smokes! Blaming that on Gase is lazy, IMO. The QB has shown what he is. Three seasons of awful play is sufficient evidence for me that the guy can't successfully play quarterback in the NFL. That is not a small sample size, and the results are clear. The Jets want to be rid of him, for Pete's sake. Why bail them out? And having a turnover machine as our QB would be the last thing a team with a defense like ours needs. Why screw up our shot? I only pray that RR's desire for an experienced QB doesn't cloud his vision on just how poor that QB's experience has been.
By the way, what is the valid argument that favors trading for Darnold? I certainly haven't seen one. He was overrated by the media talking heads coming out of USC. His being a former #3 overall pick is NOT a valid argument. He has proven that conclusively.

First..I’m not a big fan of acquiring Darnold, but he is competitive, has the arm talent. He was on a terrible team with zero talent around him being coach by a moron with zero people skills. Gase/jets impact on stunting his growth can’t be ignored.
Plus in the league there is always without doubt orgs and head coaches thinking they can do it better and get more out of a talent like Darnold who was a legit top 5 draft talent.

If 8 teams are inquiring...a third of the league...people shouldn’t be surprised if he goes for a late first. It’s being discussed
